I have windows 7 now and after installing CS3 it will not work. I goes to a grey screen and I see the mouse pointer and the little blue circle likes loading but never does. It says Photoshop CS3 NOT RESPONDING. I have tried to let Windows 7 fix the issues by going to XP setting for the program and still the same problem.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to work? |

This was a complete re-install of CS3 after you switched to W7?

It's on a new computer. I installed it and it would not work. Tried to let Win7 fix the problem and it could not fix. I have uninstalled Photoshop but have not tried to reinstall.

You quoted me before I could edit my post. lol
This may sound obvious but I would try re-installing it. Other apps work OK? Any other graphic software installed? |

I'm close to giving up. I have talked to adobe support, they said it's compatible. They send me to a link that has nothing to do with PS CS3 and windows 7. I have visited more links than I can count and tried all sorts of so-called fixes. err!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I use that exact combination (CS3 with Win 7 64bit) and havent had a problem - not really helpful other than the fact it definitely works. |

Is your copy of CS3 and upgrade or full version? If an upgrade, you will need to install the full version you have first then the CS3 upgrade.
Also, was your Windows 7 an upgrade or was it a clean, full install? |

Photoshop CS3 is an upgrade from Elements.
New computer with windows 7 64-bit.
ETA: I didn't install Elements first. I installed CS3 like I was able to do with XP. Then it asked me for my key(S). I can't even get to that point with W7. I'm going to uninstall CS3 and try installing elements first and then try to do the upgrade.

Ohhhhh Adobe makes me mad.
After not finding a solution I called Adobe support.
1. They no longer support CS3. There policy is to support the current and one earlier version of the software.
2. They will make an exception for $39.99 for a one-time phone call contract but cannot assure a resolution to the problem with no money back guaranty.
3. To upgrade from CS3 to CS5 will cost $599.00 not $199.00. Reason is because my CS3 is an upgrade from elements so they base the upgrade price on the original software.
Not today! Not tomorrow! Not ever!!!! |

I have the same combination as you and had a similar problem. I had to set CS3 to "run as administrator." It's a minor annoying extra mouse click to run it, but at least it works.

How did you do that?
I am set as administrator and still can't run CS3. Am I missing something? How do you set CS3 as administrator?

Right-click on the executable, click on Properties, Click the Advanced button and check the "Run as Administrator" box.

Found this, someone on DPReview claimed this solved the very same problem that you are having:
//kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401528.html
Hope it helps, it seems like a strange solution but it's Windows so anything's possible!
Oh and one more thing, make sure ALL your drivers are up to date, something like a graphics or tablet driver could throw PS.

Scott, it seems like there is something wrong with the installation. Because the "uninstall" option does not remove everything related to the installation (not even close), there are utilities (scripts) that Adobe has written to clean these remnants. Go here. Before you run this, make sure you have all your installation media and product keys for re-installation. |

Thanks for the link kirbic but it didn't work. The only thing I can think of that is not letting my version of PS CS3 is because it's an upgrade version.
I guess I'm stuck with Elements 3.0 for now or try to find a good free photo editor.

That's strange. I got CS2 at an upgrade price from elements then upgraded to CS3 at the regular upgrade price. Even though this was an upgrade, the full PS disks were required.
To upgrade from elements you need to have the full version of the PS CS product as there is no direct upgrade path from elements to full PS.
I'm on Windows 7 64bit and had no trouble as long as I installed CS2 then used the upgrade version of CS3.
