This picture was taken at my buddy\\\\\\\'s camp, by the fire.. Yellow object is a canoo.

I\'m trying to figure out a logical explanation...

1. Start an 8-second exposure, rear curtain.
2. Expose the man's face in dim light for about 6 seconds.
3. Quickly turn the camera toward the girl & canoe (you can see the camera was turned because the face is repeated in on direction), and keep it there.

ETA: Also, the camera will know that the flash makes things blue-er, so it will redden the image; you can see the man's face is very red because of that.

His GF, arm's lenght with a point and shoot digi cam.

That point and shoot probably still has a "night portrait" setting that's either slow-sync flash or rear-curtain flash. It will record what it sees for a second or so, and then fire the flash... that way, both the background and her are lit - the background because of the 1-second exposure, and her because of the flash.
