They more then likely assume that customers are not in contact with each other. Will post if they follow through and I get the refund.

Yeah same here after I refused the partial credit they first offered...... Have not seen a credit yet so see what happens. Would have preferred the right product actually :-/

Perhaps my feedback was not negative enough. I left a rating of fair. I guess I should have used DPC voting rules on my feedback.

I left fair feedback and stated that the item was wrong. Hmm... Anyway I received my refund today.

The 80cm reflector arrived today. I used the contact seller option to let them know I wasn't happy about receiving the wrong item. I said I would wait to leave feedback until they contacted me. We'll see what happens.

Same here. Today at lunch I left negative feedback (1 star) for the vendor and spelled out in my comment what was advertised and what I actually received (same no name 80cm as everyone else). At 4pm I received an email from New Harbor offering a full refund while keeping the reflector in exchange for removing the feedback. Replied that as soon as I saw the credit to my account I would remove the feedback.

They offered me a $10 refund after I sent them an email but left no feedback. Hearing the stories in this thread, I've decided to play hardball and threatened to leave one-star feedback if they don't give me the full refund/keep reflectors deal.

So which one are we talking about that was not as advertised? I ordered the one from the OP's original link and I haven't even received it yet.

Ok, thanks. Not sure why I haven't received mine yet. I'm going to jump on them about the bait/switch issue also if they sent me the smaller size.

I'm beneath their notice. I haven't received a bribe to change my feedback yet.

Just saw the credit from amazon... EVERY email they say please don't leave negative feedback (I have never mentioned it)..... Have not left any yet but plan to see what is still advertised... If they have corrected as stated then prob similar to you guys but if it's still bait-n-switch will say that.
07/30/2010 09:38:15 PM · #63
Yup, received the same no-name, smaller knock-off reflector in the mail today.

Left negative feedback, sent seller an email, registered a complaint with amazon, and filed a complaint with the New Jersey BBB against EShop, Inc. (Hey, if you bait-and-switch me, I don't hold back... It's obvious this isn't a one-time "whoops".) ;)

Just got my bribe in the E-mail. 100% refund to change my feedback. For a $15 item? If they have corrected the product description I will update my feedback. If not, I think future purchasers need to know it's not as advertised.

Added: Just checked the link Scalvert posted on the original item and something has changed. The reflector is now shown as being sold directly by Amazon (not New Harbor) for $29.99. I know it's the same item as right above it is a blurb telling me I previously ordered this product a few days ago. I suspect that they have gotten enough negative feedback for Amazon to step in.

I agree--at the start, not only the original link, but a couple others there were New Harbor, for low prices. Don't see any New Harbor links now..... Guess they had a lot of inventory to unload. Probably less than 10% of folks complain, request refund, so they likely consider it worth the risk. I'm kinda pissed about it because I sent that link to several friends--the original link happened to be a Wescott reflector that I myself had purchased a year before (even had the "you ordered this item.." tag at the top. So I sent the link to friends stating that I had bought this exact item for 30 bucks w/o shipping a year ago, now it was on sale for 8.99, 15 bucks shipped, and recommended the product.

So I had to email them all back and tell them about the probable bait and switch, how to go about getting a refund via feedback, etc. The stupid part of it all is that the item New Harbor actually ships is a good deal at $8.99, and if they had only accurately represented it, no biggie and still a good value.

Agreed. I would likely buy another one if the seller had been upfront about what it was. I'm sure I can find another seller offering it and advertising it for what it is.

I sent them a response declining their generous offer. My seller feedback will stand. I probably need to update my feedback on the item itself to show that I bought it from a third party.

Same here (obviously) even though I didn't order one myself. It makes me hesitant to post other deals, like this [probably mediocre quality] 13-in-1 card reader for 89¢ shipped.

I noticed that DealMac listed New Harbor again two days ago, but this time with a corrected 43" generic reflector for $9 plus S&H. That's actually a better deal unless those people get bait-and-switched to Wescott reflectors. ;-)

Probably people will get a 1.3 in 1 card reader..... :-)

I did the "cheaper shipping" link from above This One (I think the price is now a dollar higher). It came in a few days and I just measured it - 42" close enough (that would be within tolerances at a Chinese slave factory). The quality seems to be good. Not sure what happened to some of you but Shannon don't stop posting stuff like this.

Just got notification of a full refund on the incorrectly advertised reflectors. Although getting essentially bait-and-switched isn't very cool, it's nice that New Harbor had the decency to clean up after itself.

Well, that coupon expired already, but they have tons of cheap junk -- I ended up ordering a $5 model which will also handle CF cards so I can use it for Isaac's A80 camera in addition to mine, which uses SD cards. I've been looking for a cheap card reader to carry with my laptop. I just hope I don't need an "extension cord" to get it plugged in.

I also got some cheap ($4/100) CD/DVD envelopes (white, clear window) ... 50% recycled paper ...

I'm most impressed with these folks by the number of products which qualify for free (albeit literally by slow boat from China) shipping. I'm continually frustrated by e-commerce situations where the shipping costs more than the product ... :-(

We shall see if I remain impressed after/if the products arrive ...

I've seen these guys offer products for 29¢ with free shipping. Figure that one out! :-/

I'm guessing they picked up 50,000 "surplus" or discontinued units for 5¢, and use them as loss-leaders to get us to order other stuff from them ... like I ordered a different (more expensive) unit than I went there for, and something else besides ... :-)

Maybe, but Meritline doesn't sell many high-margin products to make up for the loss, especially since that free shipping is often overseas! One thing they're good for though: LensPens. You can get two of them for $6.49 shipped (sometimes even less). The cheapest option at B&H is $7.93 plus shipping for one!
