:) I KNEW it was his.. Aside from the fact that it was fair well DNMC.. And besides, I would think he'd take it as a complement, as that does seem to be the reaction he's going for.. I've seen MANY whiterook entries that simply weren't even possibly accidents..

I'm not going to be nice in my comments when I'm 97% sure the person is actually looking for abuse.

--

ETA: Visit his page, and you'll find proof that he isn't just a really bad photographer..

I have no idea what you guys are talking about...

I think it's stupid to only mark nice comments as helpful - the majority of nice comments aren't.
That said you didn't say anything useful in that comment so why should it be marked helpful... except for the complement of his processing improving I guess :)

no no no thats not it... i had several people who got low votes as i was leaving my comment and htought i left the low vote too... which i didnt cause i voted yesterday... i had to dig myself out of it lol

Carrie, the way how you did your voting and commenting it the way how I do mine...for just this reason, I don't really like (or care) that ya'll do your score counting graphs as to who cast what vote with a comment...I like the surprise of it...(no, I didn't want to know the sex of my children before they were born either...you get what you get)

I do all my voting then I go back and comment, I like doing this cause I think I'm throwing off all the score counting fiends out there (if I am wrong on this let me live in my dream world). As no score will(or should) come in when my comment arrives, because I have already voted and my vote is in their tally. But if someone else happened to cast their vote just as I hit the Post key on my comment. That is when I get a "huh" note... I could be wrong about throwing off their graphs and I have gotten the occasional hate mail due to the mix ups of multiple votes and comments coming in at the same time, but that will always happen...

Take courage and keep commenting (please)...it really does help you to grow in understanding the what/how of photography. And when someone sends me a "huh" note, it has "usually" resulted in a good discussion of photography and the best part is that I "usually" make a friend... Thank you for your comment on my picture, I really do appreciate the time that it takes to accomplish that.

now lets see where the fur flies...

wow! thanks for that!! means a lot and i will keep commenting.
The reason I go back and do it is so that I am forced to take a second look at the photograph... i often bump 4 or 5 that i gave a lower score but when commenting change my mind.... this stops me from the 5 second quick vote and then going back and regretting it later. :) commenting helps me learn (because I have to analyze others work) and I also feel that commenting helps others look at their image from anothers point of view.

that is exactly what the commenting should do for you...make you stop and observe, thus making you articulate what you are seeing...and boy sometimes I'm way, way off base. But then there are those of you more than willing to put me where I belong...lol

Awwww...Carrie....you'll soon learn that no matter what you do in here, sometimes, there's going to be someone, somewhere who is going to either misinterpret what you are saying and get upset or be upset no matter what you do or don't do. LOL It's part of the "DPC Syndrome" LOL There's a lot of "touchy feelings" in here at times and we never know when someone will take something the wrong way. It's part of the hazards of commenting or posting on forums and, as Ja-9 has said, there are people sitting literally with graphs and charts and watching every vote and correlating comments coming in and it gets purely NUTS in here! LOL

Keep on commenting, Carrie. If there's that much going on with the stats and people are watching them that closely and that rigorously tracking stuff, it's bound to end up with *some* people up in arms because there's been mistaken correlations.

I'm starting to miss wild vote swings, the last four entries have just managed to sit fair well stable. (either that or I've just lost the concern over a .2 point difference...)

I think it may not be they are not voting, but as LadyK says, you vote only once. I certainly look at images maybe 2, 3 or even 4 times (and may or may not adjust scores). Certainly I go through all the images before I start voting. Then vote and then maybe I go back and change votes. So that's at least 3 views for my 1 vote.

this is also my "workflow"... i look the images more than one time, before and after my vote...

mine as well, so your view counts can be quite "off"

It's also my intended workflow.
But I get about half way into a copetition and see something either beautiful or horrid and feel compelled to comment/vote and then the workflow bursts.

I also view them all several times. I go through them all once, then go back and work from the first shot on my screen and start commenting and scoring. Then, I go back a final time to view them all again and adjust scores if I think I need to (pretty much always to bump some up).
