I know I've been gone awhile. I had to lay my camera and let life take over for quite awhile. I picked it back up during a recent vacation and decided it was time to start shooting again.
I got CS5 (for MAC) when it came out and I'm having one issue with it and I can't seem to figure out how to fix the problem. When I open a RAW image it only opens it as an 8 bit file rather than 16 bit. I thought iPhoto was doing it but I opened a RAW file today in CS3 and it opened as a 16 bit file so I know it is a setting problem within CS5.
Anyone have any idea where I can change this setting? |

Do you mean the transfer from ACR to CS5 is 8bit?
There's a link at the bottom of the ACR screen. Click it to set the options for the file transferred to PS. |

| I export my RAW file out of iPhoto, save it to my desktop and open with CS5 but it only opens as an 8 bit file. When I do the same process and open with CS3 it opens as a 16 bit file. |

Is it a RAW file coming out of iPhoto?
When you open a RAW file by double clicking it it will open in ACR, not directly in photoshop. From ACR you go to PS by clicking the Open Image button.
At the bottom of the ACR window is a link which shows the bit density and the colour space. Click the link.
You will get the option to change the bit depth and the colour space. Once you change it, it will remain at the new settings whenever you open a RAW file until you change those settings again.
