Well I'm sitting here with my American Idol wrist band on. I took my daughter to sign up for an audition. We got our bands and tickets for Monday morning. Producers say to arrive at 5am.

We will all go into the New Orleans Arena to await the one chance to get to the "next" level. I will NOT be singing...too old. I need to have a band to accompany my daughter.

My daughter can sing. Has been singing since a toddler. Voice lessons, piano lessons ...the whole thing. Been in contests...musicals...etc. She enjoys it too.

I did let her know that this "shot" is just that....a "shot"...more like a lottery. Just the fact that they move "bozos" in to audition in front of the real judges on TV confirms that just being able to sing does not get you in the door.

Oh well....I'll have my droid with me on Monday so check the thread for possible low quality pics !

ok so two tips from someone who has been with a friend while she went thru this... tell her that her personality is just as important as her singing. She has to be super bubbily and happy. She has to "stand out" and yell scream and holler with the crowds!

The second tip is to be prepared for a LONG and tedious day... we were there for 13 hours... and then had to come back the next day.... for another 15 hours..... it was H**l

I hope she gets a shot!! and I wish her the best of luck!!!!

Best of luck to her, Kenny! Here's some more advice: If she makes it to the judges and is rejected by them and you want to at least ensure that she will make the TV edit, have her cuss them out, flip them off and tell them they they wouldn't know talent if it *bleeped* then in the *bleep*. ;-) I hope she makes it!

Thanks everyone...and Art too ! It was pretty easy to sign up though...there was a big crowd early in the morning. We went at noon and walked right up to the tables. They had about 10 tables set up with workers. There was a few people walking up with us and we saw some others as we were leaving. Nothing like the big "show" crowds you see on the TV.

Expecting to have it a little harder tomorrow. I'll keep you posted via Droid.

Hello again,

Well it was a wild ride. I don't have time to give you every detail. My daughter didn't make it...however, many...many didn't make it!

I did notice one thing though.....everyone I saw that was dressed up as a fool made it to the next round.

A girl dressed in full native american cheif headgear went on to the tv level. A girl with ultra short shorts on, thin and "top heavy" wearing a full mardi gras mask went on....AND a girl dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz went through!

To be fair I must say that I didn't hear them sing but the chances that these three could make it on voice was likely low. I'd say about 20% of the people made it through, this means that less than ONE of them should have made it...LOL...Oh well, watch the show, maybe you'll see them!

Overall it was a great experience for my daughter and I to share. She is a good singer and when I get something down on good media, I'll post it.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear she didn't make it. The wild and wacky appearances typically do get through at least to the TV round - been that way since season one I think. Anyway, I hope she keeps pursuing her dreams.

Here's a sample of my daughter singing. She's playing piano and also singing harmony.
