Ok, took my first pictures with my 7D, downloaded them into bridge, and they won't preview. Tried to open them and get the message "cannot complete your request because of a program error.

They're showing with the typical RAW extension CR2.

Help!! (please??)

Also make sure the version of the raw converter you have supports the 7D.

I cant exactly remember how to do it but there is a way to flush the cache in Bridge and that should work as Ive had that happen before...

omg!! They are telling me that my version doesn't support the 7D, and that I have to buy the upgrade. I just bought CS4 less than 6 months ago. And now that I spent every extra penny that I have on the 7D, there's no way I can afford the upgrade.

I'm on hold waiting for a manager, but right now I have a new camera but I can't work with the files from it. I'm trying hard not to panic, but it's not going too well.

CS4 supports the 7D. That's what I use.

what version of camera RAW are you using?

I'm on 5.0, and I'm searching while on hold with adobe. It's looking like I need 5.6 for the 7D to function, I hadn't found the info on updating on the first go around, but I think I might have found something. I've got an idiot on line at the moment. I can't believe they'd tell me that I need to buy CS5 to be able to use a camera that was release before I purchased my version of CS4.

Hi Wendy

Try installing the Adobe updater utility and then run that, let it handle the updating for you. That's what worked for my 5D - manually installing the latest version of Camera Raw didn't seem to hack it.

The latest version of ACR won't work on CS4 but you can download earlier versions from:

Adobe Camera raw download page

You should get the latest version that CS4 supports.

You don't need CS5 do only a simple update.
Camera Raw 5.7 is the latest version for CS4 if I remember well.

Thanks, I've found the 5.6 update, and I'm trying that. I'll go back and look for 5.7 in a bit.

Adobe didn't make this easy to find. Usually updates are more readily available, but the updates were listed with upgrades that all pointed to CS5. Once I had a version number, I was able to track it down.

I'm at 5.6. Supposedly the newer versions for CS5 do a better job with Canon RAW files, but CS4 WILL open them.

is that through the help - > updates? That doesn't find the RAW updates.

Then download the stand alone camera raw converter and it will be fine.
I did check, 5.7 is the latest version for CS4.

Bummer on the issues but congrats on the new, sweet camera.

Thanks, guys. This is looking promising. They're showing up in bridge, so I assume that means I can open them as well -- giving is a shot now.

I panicked too earlier, and I know better than that. I've just had so many problems with the 40D, and the 7D wasn't very well packed for shipping, that I was nervous that something would go wrong.

Now I can take a deep breath and play for awhile.

I think my 7D is acting up. I have had it several months and still no ribbon? I'm thinking of sending it back as a defect. ;)
