My D300 had the rear buttons begin to fail last week, locked up and could not view shots or even access the menu. I'm bummed being without my D300 as I just returned from a three day trip to Vancouver Island with only my point and shoot. I also so wanted to enter the Shallow DOF challenge, darn!
But I arrived home to find an e-mail from Nikon telling me that the fix will be covered under warranty even though the camera is six months out of the warranty period. Thought I would give credit as we tend to complain about more than compliment service departments. Maybe I'm a bit premature in my praise as I still need to see if I get it back in a timely manner and actually fixed. But it was a happy e-mail to get!

I hope that the story has a happy ending. I know the feeling about the buttons glitching out, because one of my Fuji S3's did the same thing. It was about 6 years old though, so it had just worn out.

Does that mean you sent it in multiple times and it came back with the same problem? Oh crap. |

I have 3 of them. The first was a gift from my nephew Doug, who used it in his architectural photography biz for a year or so, then I hauled it all over everywhere with me for about 4 years before the buttons wore out. I think that using it while salt water fishing and cruising, or maybe the Baha 1000 support team photography run and about 150/200K actuations may have had something to do with it too. The shutter finally stopped working.
I had a backup S3, with a scratch in the sensor, and I replaced it with an S3 that I bought on eBay from Adorama for $95. They said that it was not working aka would not take a photo. When it got here, I did a full reset. It's fine, and it's the one that I am using now.
I did send the first one in for a slight problem when smoke came out of it and it quit working. Repair was $400 and shipping, and it was ok for about 3 years before the buttons quit working.

Thanks. That makes me feel a bit better that they will be successful in repairing it, at least for a time.
