I am going on an unexpected trip to Israel on April 3. I have never been there and have no idea of any great photo ops (except for Petra Jordan, where I will be going on a day trip, thanks Gordon). Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Barbara

The part of this trip that is unusual is that my hubbys company is sending me. They have a driver on contract who will watch out for me, so I feel relatively safe. This is "make up to the wife trip" for sending my hubby everywhere in the world.

Many photos to come

Awesome opportunity for you. Pack that camerae and go! Your driver should know the photo-op spots. Can't wait for your return with tons of photos. Have fun.

I watched a Canon Photography show on some channel a little while ago on Isreal... I was amazed at the photo ops.

Do some looking around maybe you can find out what channel it was on and order the tape to get an idea of where they were...

I wanna say it was on PBS, discovery or history, but i'm not sure...

I will be staying in Jeruselm, and I know that area is all history. What I am looking for is something other than history in case I get tired of ruins and old buildings.

All spellings approximate ...

@ Acco (Acre) on the coast has interesting Turkish ruins/architecture.
@ There's a park up the coast towards Haifa where there are some underwater caves -- I forgot the name but think it begins with an "R".
@ If you can get over by the Dead Sea, you should go to the game reserve at Ein Gedi, and check out the ruins of the Essene community at Qumran (where they found the Dead Sea Scrolls)
@ If you follow that highway a long ways south you'll pass (a turn-off to?) Masada and end up at the resort area of Eilat on the Red Sea.
@ There's a city called Safat in the mountains to the north, home to some of the ultra-orthodox and more mystical sects ....
@ I don't know whether it's still safe to go northwards through the West Bank, past Jericho and up to the Sea of Galilee:

One of the most interesting (and scariest) things I did (in 1991) was traverse Hezekiah's Tunnel, something it is probably even less safe to do today.

It requires a somewhat different mindset over there ... when a bunch of teenagers with machine guns get on the bus, you generally should feel safer ....

You are lucky enough to be able to fulfill every (practicing) Jew's pledge/hope, to be in Jerusalem for Passover. Enjoy and be safe!
