I would guess it's been pooped on by birds a few times and harvested by squirrels. |
Nope -- the bait camera is my old film camera (no one noticed, though) :D

I noticed it was a film camera when I saw the image... |

I'll either have to buy a new battery or borrow someone else's (there's a lady down the street with a canon) on friday -- I'm supposed to be taking the swim team picture.

Or maybe it was saving me from trigger finger.

Oooh, it finally died, huh? Major bummer :-(
I had a battery problem at one point with my D200. Bought generics and they worked like a charm! I say go for a quick and cheap replacement battery so you can at least shoot things again while you wait to see what happens with the 40D. |

I'm guessing your trigger finger is just getting weaker from years of clicking the update button ;-)

haha! Not quite years -- I've only been here 1.5 years -- so I still have at least another 1.5 years of updating before I get updateadosis.
I went to buy a battery for my backup camera today, but the store was out. More than 24 hours without a camera -- I think I'm starting to get the shakes. (If I start seeing little pink cf cards marching around...)

I sent my camera in (4th time in a year). I have a backup camera, a 20D, but that battery has been missing since the last time I sent in the 40D. (I'm wondering if I sent it in with the camera accidentally, and it didn't come back. Either that or it's really buried somewhere in the house.
Anyway. I have no working camera.
So I thought I'd whine instead. |

Wendy,
I had a 30D that did the same thing. I had it in for the shutter and they couldn't find anything wrong. It's the button itself, not the shutter or the lenses, but the button. How do I know this? I also had a vertical grip with another button on it and that other button NEVER failed me. Not ever, not once. Lots of 30Ds had that problem (I had tow and both did it, but one only rarely). If you have to ever send it in again specifically tell them about the BUTTON. (and maybe rent a vertical grip to test out the theory on your camera. Oh... and buy another battery. It never hurts.

That is so incredibly kind of you! I was going to try to just wait for the week or so until my camera came back, but I'm doing swim team pictures tomorrow morning, so I had to go and buy one.
However, I called canon back to try to get a little more off of the 7D. They didn't come down on price at all, but they now agreed that I don't have to trade in my 20D for it. So I can sell the 20D when I upgrade. It will probably sell better with a battery.
Again, thanks for the offer! I just had to whine for awhile that it was the 4th time in a year that I was without my 40D. :)

I have a feeling that you're completely right -- though I'm hoping it's related enough to the other shutter issues that I don't get charged for the repair. When you've sent it in four times in one year (little less than a year, actually), you hope you don't have to pay for the repair. This is getting rather ridiculous.
