I have a cruise to Alaska booked for late June, was wondering if anyone has done the Inside Passage cruise and if they have any suggestions for photo ops. I've been scouring the web for info and thought I might be able to get some good tips here. |

Just remember to adjust your exposure to get the snow looking white. I'm guessing there will be little not worth photographing (lucky you!). |

Very cool - that's a cruise I've always wanted to do. We're going to Alaska in August and staying on land for a week.
Have a great time and just take pictures of everything!!! Then share them with us :-) |

Been there. Traveled on the Princess. Glacier bay is a standard stop. I was able to capture Bald Eagles, Sitka Deer, Whales, Seals, Brown Bear, Otters, and some truly spectacular scenery. I have very specific opinions on the day trips.....sign up early, and budget for the best ones. The small difference in price is more than worth the extra cost. A helicopter to the glacier is nearly as much as the helicopter ride to the top of the glacier field, but with the premium trip you get twice the experience and a tremendous difference in photographic opportunities.
PM me if you are interested in specific information on ports. I've actually been there twice. Once in Jaunuary - dog sledding and once in July - cruising the inside passage.

I went this august on the Volendam. We had a great time. I took over 3000 photos that week!
The excursions are very expensive so choose wisely.
We did the canoeing excursion to Glacier Point (not Bay, the cruise ship goes there). I have some photos of that in my Photopoints portfolio. It was very expensive, and the Davidson glacier itself wasn't worth it, but the location they took us to was; it was the most isolated remote, and beautiful spot I've ever been to.
See my portfolio here (Alaska Portfolio) and you will see a few of my pictures, including a nice one of Glacier Bay taken by my daughter who snarfed my camera when hers ran out!
Here's my daughters pic from Glacier Bay:
Others that went on the whale watch expedition told us they were very very happy and saw lots of whales close up. We saw some from the ship, but not close enough. If you can afford it, and if the weather permits, you can go on the misty fjord expedition which was supposed to be very very good.
I'd be happy to tell you all I can later but sadly my mother died earlier this week (she was 80) and I am traveling to Indiana today to be with my father and sisters. So I have little time to write today.

Suggestion is to wake up earlier so that you get a nice spot on the deck. Best thing is to talk to the crew beforehand to find out which part of the ship has a good vantage point for the day's journey.
Don't know if all ships have those blue screens on the deck to block the wind/sun, One of my friends had to climb around to get some good shots without shooting through the screens when they went to Alaska.
