Check this badboy out... Clearly, I'm not going to be doing any urban work with this, but I think it will prove most useful for rural lightpainting... I've got a bunch of ideas..
Ohh, I also picked up the 200mW Red as well... I've got a low power green (sensors pick up green like crazy) and a 20mW violet, so this pretty well does it for my solid state laser collection...
Soooo, any ideas you would try if you were me?? I'd love to hear some creative ideas, but remember 1W of blue laser is extremely dangerous, so I'll be somewhat limited as to where I can employ this..

Near an airport? that should be fun!
or buy two and recreate the fight between Darth Vader and Obi Wan?

Isn't that blue laser the one that can burn skin in seconds and cause instant blinding?

Yes. Not in any way a toy, essentially it shouldn't be operated anywhere near people or animals..
ETA:
The blue wavelength further multiplies this hazard because it can overstimulate the green color receptors in your eye, and cause temporary (months?) green color blindness...
But, also note that this has several safety systems that are not normally seen on laser pointers, hence it's a portable laser system, not a laser pointer..
Should prove exciting..

As is par for the course with you, those are both incredibly bad ideas... Funny, but horrible. :)
I should probably add that I've owned a few 100+mW greens, and those are dangerous in their own right, nothing quite like this, but still dangerous. Even those shouldn't be used for the above ideas.... And I also ordered extra protective eye-wear...

I could see interesting things happening with an old barn out in the sticks or somesuch. Would a camera pick up blue laser light against clouds? Paint the sky blue, the rocks red, the vegetation green.
Or is pointing the thing upwards just a bad idea in general? |

Depends strongly on air-traffic and cloud cover. If there's no air-traffic, no problem in any case. If there's air-traffic, it's probably best avoided all together, but strong cloud cover would disperse them beam's collimation, thereby rendering it safe..
As per the barn idea, I think I like that, and I did order the Lens kit, so that gets me a few more options too, and should ensure that I don't light the barn on fire.... |

However, if you should conflagrate the barn, don't stop shooting. |

| I read today that Lucasfilm is suing the maker of this, because it looks like a Star Wars light saber. (Heck, half the flashlights on the market look like one!) The manufacturer has made NO suggestion to compare it and has not copied any Lucas designs. |

Right.. That's one reason I'm ordering now, I don't want to wait for them to retool the casing.
Also, don't you think it's funny that an imaginary product can sue a real product for copyright infringement?
What's next? Hollywood suing NASA? |

| I don't think there is anything to this. The laser does not duplicate any Lucas designs and they are not promoting it as a light saber. It is simply a case of Lucasfilm showing that it is going to protect it's trademarks, just in case someone really does it in the future. If they can show that the company failed to protect it's trademarks beforehand, a case could get thrown out. So corporations sue anyone who comes even remotely close. I recall a Grocer in New Zealand a year or two ago, who was sued by Apple Inc. for having an Apple in their logo. |

Would this be a copyright infringement or a trademark infringement case? It's certainly not patent infringement. Either way it's ridiculous. |
