The Mojito has risen in the ranks to become of the most popular cocktails. It originated in Cuba, was second to the Daiquiri on Ernest Hemmingway's list of favorite cocktails and, since the 1980's, has become one of the more fashionable tropical cocktails. It's very simple, using mint and lime to accent the rum. Choose a premium rum like Cruzan, Appleton or Mount Gay for a spectacular Mojito.
Ingredients:

2 tsp sugar
6-8 mint leaves
club soda
1 lime, halved
2 oz light rum
mint sprig for garnish
Preparation:

Place the sugar, the mint leaves, and a little club soda into a highball glass.
Muddle well to dissolve the sugar and to release the mint flavor.
Squeeze the juice from both halves of the lime into the glass.
Drop one half of the lime into the glass.
Add the rum.
Stir well.
Fill the glass with ice cubes.
Add the rest of the club soda.
Garnish with the mint sprig.

It's one of those idiomatic anomalies that it's very good to be "in a groove" but very bad to be "stuck in a rut" ...

ETA: El Mojito sounds like a Carribean Julep ... yum.

Hmmm... wonder if it'd work without the rum and with ginger ale instead of club soda? May have to get some mint leaves and try!

If you want to leave out the rum you might try using brown sugar or a few drops of molasses to compensate flavor- and color-wise. And there are some good ginger ales/ginger beers out of Jamaica ...

Mmmmm ginger beer....love that stuff! Make Jello with it, using cold ginger beer in lieu of ice to help the dissolves Jello set. Makes a nice change.

Actually, it's easy to make your own ginger beer/ale ... boil a bunch of ginger root and sugar, strain and cool -- put a little in a glass and add plain carbonated water. I have a recipe with recommended amounts somewhere -- I'll look for it later. Also, you can do the same with a vanilla bean to make cream soda, though it's better to make a cold extract using neutral grain alcohol (or vodka) ...

Woo-Hoo, I received a Gold Bear Paw from Bear_Music for the fireworks "side" challenge that he took his time to do. This is what got it for me , I am pretty stoked. Plus my FS entry is a new PB as far as FS entries go and it is near a top 5 of all my entries. And next challenge I enter will be number 50. Good week, hmm... where is that fan lol.

Hi everyone. Man, I can't believe how long it's been since I entered something.

Since many of you seem to appreciate my ongoing series of shots and explanations of Judaism, I thought I'd share my FS entry, where I explain a lot about becoming a Bat Mitzvah (thanks, Deb and Michelle for the comments before I managed to put in the story!).

Where did everybody go??? I miss the conversations we all shared not to mention the support we were for each other.

Well just in case others are looking in from time to time, I have some wonderful news. My wife, Janet-Lynne (as some of might remember from an earlier post) is doing a couch to five k

running programme and when she started it she couldn't even run 30 seconds without being winded. Well now she is running a solid 35 minutes without being winded. She is my champion and

I'm so proud of her for achieving her goal. Now she wants to start building up to running faster over the same distance. Did I mention I was proud of here???

All the best to everyone who is still out there and to those of you who have fallen by the wayside.

MAX!

Hey, Max. Think she can send some gumption this way???
8-)

I need to "use it or lose it", myself. Gettin' lazy in my old age! lol

Also, looks like Jeb's put another ribbon up in the Team Suck trophy case!
Nice...

I went through all of your portfolio entries that relate to your faith. Couldn't stop reading. I was mesmerized. Very interesting stuff. I'm sure that you're very proud of your daughter.

I'll raise a glass of Kelli's mojitos to Janet-Lynne! May she inspire others to get off the couch.

While we're on the subject of rum recipes, here's one for rum punch. (I got it from Tammster's husband.

1 part sour (fresh lime juice)
2 parts sweet (sugar)
3 parts strong (rum)
4 parts weak (water and/or ice)
Finish it off with a sprinkle of fresh ground nutmeg.

Easy to remember and easier to drink ... not so easy to get off the floor.

Way to go. I still stop in now and again but have been trying to get outside and do stuff and not spend all my time in front of the puter.
