I am looking at putting up 3 or 4 black and white/bronze sepia shots on my DPCPrints area, from the Canyonlands in UT. Any opinions would be appreciated. If choice of 2, which? Thinking I may do a diptych or triptych (panorama paper or something). Other ideas? Thanks

(Need to bronze sepia the arch still)

The one of the arches is the best by far.
They are all good, just seem to be lacking a little something.
I think they dont have enough of a main subject maybe, not sure.

dacrazyrn FWIW:
I like the first and last one. The clouds grab me!!!
Personally I'd be proud to own any of them or to have taken them. I like the tones but would suggest maybe some darkening [burn] of the last one on the arch to give it a bit of pop.....? Just my 2cents and ya know what thats worth.

some burning on the cliff wall face? like to bring down the brightness of it? K

I just wanted to add a little bit to this insight.

I like the 1st, 3rd, and 4th. The 4th is clearly the best. As for the photos missing a little something, I think that something is lighting. Landscapes done on this scale require special attention to the detail of natural light. I am not sure when you took these, but the lighting appears to be a bit flat. Maybe @noon or when the sun is high in the sky beaming straight down at 90 degrees give or take?

You need more directional sunlight to pick up the highlights of the rocks and help attract the viewer through the landscape. Maybe even try bumping the contrast up a bit to get a little more out of the natural ridges.

These are very good, but I think you're looking to make them even better. A possible reshoot opportunity? I have found that the best time for landscapes is first thing in the morning or just prior to sunset.

The 4th one is really really cool.

thanks, and after taking this up more sseriously, I understand what you say. I took these back in 1999 with a point and shoot film camera, just as for basically documenting our trip into the Canyonlands. So time of day did not matter to me at all. During this trip is when the photography bug hit me again. And went out and bought a digital camera after this trip and started to learn.
I may try to go back through there again now that I have an appreciation for what and how of photography. the first 3 shots would be easy, a lot of driving, and a mile or so of hiking. Angel Arch is tougher. That is a good, long day hike just to get to it, but well worth it. Shall see
thanks for the critiques
