Originally posted by njsabs: Jason, as you know I have the white walls, however, I also have the ability to cover them with my backdrops on my curtain tracks...I love that curtain system....and it was fairly inexpensive. I actually like having the flexibility to have the light bounce all around, or to keep it completely controlled. In our shoot together of Sofia, the walls were covered, with only the ceiling exposed with white. As far as flooring, I would have loved to put wood flooring in, you can use the flooring as part of the image if you would like. Something that looks rich in textures and tones. Or cement flooring can always work as well.....it gives a good texture as well. Hanging a system from the ceiling is a great idea....can save you a bit more space.....you are right on track with your lighting ;O). |
Sounds good, but I dunno about a cement floor. Gets cold, if you drop a glass it will break (though yeah be easy to clean up) and is awfully hard on the feet. My teeny little studio has fake-wood floor with floating floor stuff underneath it, and so far anything fragile I've dropped has tended to bounce a little as opposed to just shattering on impact.
Also, if you plan to use models, think about them. I once had a shoot for my modelling portfolio on a concrete floor, it was bonechilling cold and my feet (in heels) hurt twice as fast...and not for nothin' is it required by Equity and other actors' groups that dancers and stage actors MUST have a wooden floor to perform on! |

Thanks Susan, I had just read thru all this over again and the idea of a wood laminate crept into my mind. |

You're welcome! And also, fwiw, I had mine (teeny little 8x9 room) painted in flat matte white, flat black (for the Closet of Doom) and as close as I could get to 18% grey. It has a skylight so lots of natural light. And if/whenI want to block out that light, I make shims and put them in a pillowcase. The material the shims are made from are large, white, semi-opaque, roughly 2x3 ft compressed styrofoam boards. I find them for $1.25 CDN at local loonie store next to the big coloured sheets of sugar paper.
Hope this helps! Also, awhile ago magenmarie was also putting up a home studio. The thread may be a few years old by now, but if you can find it, may find more ideas there. |
