DPL finale...

Do I dare click update? Nah, I'll go do my share of damage first. Then I'll come back here and whine about the early votes.

I didn't expect anything wonderful on this, and then I saw the rest of the entries. WOW! There are some wonderful shots in here!

Participating on this after a long time. Hope a 5.5ish score, but with DPC we never know...

What is a portrait?

First time it ever happened to me. I tried to enter, hit the button and roll over happened. I was too late. :( Probably for the best though.

I like part of wikipedia's definition: The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position

Why do they have to be in a still position?

From "The Office"

Michael Scott: Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information.

That's always been the classic definition of portrait, imo. However, If it's a good shot that's really about the person, it doesn't particular matter to me if they're moving, but I'm not rigid in my voting. In previous challenges, there have been people that thought that full length can't even be considered a portrait.

You mean like Olan Mills????? I'm looking for something more creative that brings out the essence of the person and their personality. I would prefer a head and shoulders shot but if it's dynamic I wouldn't be so rigid.

It said a formal portrait. I'll go with that. That said, I'm NOT handing out 1s if they miss the mark, just knocking them down a bit.

Don't you know that after you do well, you're supposed to do poorly on the next challenge? You just don't know how to do things right... :P

I believe the word formal was used so you wouldn't see a bunch of candids since the title is street portraiture. : )

Well that's one way to read it. :)

But we still ended up with several candids anyway :)

You two have to be the most comical couple ever on DP - and you know, people who shoot together, stay together :) Thanks so much for all the laughs lately and I hope you both score exactly the same. A high number too!
