My husband tried Avast and hated it... said it messed everything up on his computer LOL

Worth checking into. I think you should contact onOne and ask them about it. |

Seconded - I have used Bitdefender for the past 5 years and renewed my subscription without thought - however it recently expired and I tried the MS Security Essentials and it picked up a number of things Bitdefender must of overlooked. Recommended! (and pretty low memory/cpu overhead & FREE!)

He may not like it so much when he tries to get rid of it. I seem to recall that it sets itself somewhere in the Registry, a part where people like me dare not go.

I've heard good about the MS product, but as far as which is best, that keeps flip-flopping every year or two. I tried Antivir after Maximum PC rated it highly, but everytime it does an update it nags me to get the pay version. |
This is a lie. I have the same problem the OP had, and I have had Microsoft security essentials installed the entire time. It did absolutely nothing.
You get what you pay for. and in this case I paid nothing and got nothing. other than a pain in the ass virus :] |

Nice, inoffensive name you have there, BTW.
No antimalware solution is 100% effective. It's an impossible game of cat and mouse between the malware writers and the companies that make antivirus products. The most you can do it to protect yourself as best as you can.
Here's what I do to keep my system secure:
-I use the Firefox browser
-I add the NoScript extension to Firefox. (A bit of a nuisance to use, especially at first, but it really tightens up on one of the major routes for malware to get into your computer.
-Disable 3rd party cookies (Does not really prevent malware, but keeps your computer free of a lot of tracking cookies that phone home and slow your computer down)
-Install a custom hosts file. This blocks requests for thousands of known adware and malware sites. If a web site or something on your computer attempts to connect to one of these sites, the request will not get anywhere.
-I use the free version of AVG antivirus. Some people will recommend other choices, but I've been using AVG for years and it has always worked well for me. The point is to use something that comes from a trusted source. (There are many fake antivirus programs out there that are malware themselves, so always use something that is recommended by a source you trust)
-Spybot S&D anti adware application. Because of the other steps I take, Spybot rarely finds more than a few tracking cookies.

Oh no!!! I've installed this as well, but so far haven't had any redirecting problems, although my browsing is REALLY slow and weird... |

The problem's not with the OnOne software, it's with the PRESETS from unknown sources. My solution to that's simple; I won't install third-party presets :-) No problems for me with OnOne thus far, knock on wood. I hope it stays that way, 'cuz I love this software.

Interesting...a while back--several times in fact--I tried to download the free onone software, Norton Antivirus kept telling me it's infected and deletes it. I thought it was a problem with Norton, since I knew Bear was running it. But I just decided not to bother with it.
So I guess NAV does work. :) |

Well, I'm not having any problems with it. I haven't downloaded any outside presets, though. The main part seems to be fine... They're certainly a reputable company that charges a ton for their software...

I run Norton, have the free onOne presets for Lightroom and ACR, ran Phototools 2.5, the update to 2.6, and finally the whole Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 which I got recently at an unbelievable price of $249.00 from onOne simply because I purchased Phototools 2.5 awhile back. That's a 50 percent savings off the full suite price. Just recently delving into the editing power of the software, but I just wanted to add my .02 cents and say that I've never had any issues with any software from onOne acting suspicious or getting caught in my Norton Antivirus 2011 net.
For the record I run Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Adobe CS4 64 bit for my onOneSoftware plugins, CS4 32 bit for some of my other 32 bit plugins, and If and when I run Lightroom it's version 2.7 which is also a 64 bit app. No issues with any other it.
ETA: Also, Firefox version 3.6.13 is my main web browser.
