Hey guys, just got a 5D with 50mm 1.8 primes, both secondhand but I am pretty disappointed with the sharpness of Canon's 50mm compared to my old Nikon 50mm 1.8. Anyone else have the same problem? Is it possible the problem is with the lens? Not seeing any flaws... unless it's me going mad!

Thanks all.

The 1.8 is considered to be an inexpensive fast prime... Accordingly the bokeh kinda stinks and the lens often needs focus micro-adjustments (I don't think the 5D has that feature..).. I know as I've tried two on my 50D, and both needed micro-adjustments..

The good "all around" 50mm is the 1.4 (compare 1.8 vs 1.4)... Be sure to compare them at f/4 as well.. The 1.4 just runs away with it...

If you are using it at f/1.8, it's not particularly sharp. If you are using it above f/2.5 it's not bad at all.
