I'm looking at upgrading my 400d to a 40d and I've found one on Ebay that has 23,000 shutter actuations.
The camera is described as in "great condition" and I have contacted the seller who sounds genuine and very helpful.
For $750 Australian dollars the body also comes with a Canon battery grip and 6 batteries as well as the original box and accessories.
I have placed a buy it now bid and will be able to inspect before purchasing in the next day or so.

Just wanting to know if the shutter count is too high or am I getting myself a reasonable deal with that sort of use?

Clearly this is highly variable, and each unit will fail at a different activation count..

However, from what I've read, it looks like almost all shutters last for 50,000 activations, most last past 75,000, a good number make it to 85-90k, and by 100k you start to see serious failure rate spikes..

In essence, it's pretty much guaranteed to have another 25-50k shots left before shutter failure, and perhaps as many as 80-90k...

Thanks Cory.
Worst case scenario, how much is a shutter to replace, or is it even worth it?

I know there are some here who've had it done, I think the cost is usually $250 for the xxD line.. I think.. See this thread for more info...

I hope someone who's had this done will give us some solid numbers..
