When I was a kid, my Grandad got me a Quail, which I immediately (for some reason) named Charlie.

He was my best buddy. On my birthday, Charlie was on his normal perch (either my head, or shoulder), and I remember the joy of sharing my cake with him. He'd just plop down on my plate and have a bite...

Anyhoo...

Sorry to hear it.
God bless,

Scott

Thank you all for your thoughts. It always amazes me how something so small can take up so much room in our hearts.

Pets have a way of doing just that, filling up our hearts with love.

MAX!

Visiting home for the 3 day, beautiful landscapes aside, thereΓΆ€™s no place like home.

Have a great visit Alan! Today's my son's birthday. He's 11 now. We're having a backyard barbecue party for him so I should get lots of good snapshots today, LOL. Tomorrow is a free concert by Paul Rodgers (Bad Company) then fireworks. We're having a heat wave too. Today will only be 90, but tomorrow will be 98 (and it's supposed to stay around 98 for at least the next week). It wouldn't be so bad (I love the heat) but the humidity is killer.

BTW, sending out a Happy Birthday..

Happy birthday to your son!! You should come and visit and he can hang out with my 11 year old!

Heck, we're cooler than we were the last couple of weeks, we're only getting into the upper 90s!

No fear, Max, I'm suckin' right along too...

Umm, Susan? Not one of those scores sucks, you know. I'd take any of 'em!
07/05/2010 08:00:07 PM · #767
Have at her, Deb! Which one tickles yer fancy most? :-)
07/05/2010 08:01:49 PM · #768
ANY of them, thanks! I haven't been able to get much near mid-point, let alone my average. Anything beyond the 5.0 range is AWESOME these days! (I do have a good score - a freaking GREAT score going in the Street thing, but even so my teammates on ViewFinder are SO good, mine still won't count. I've been entirely useless there. They're REALLY good and REALLY intimidating!)
07/05/2010 08:17:00 PM · #769
Deb, relax. You've ribboned before, you will ribbon again. If need be turn off your scores so they don't drive you batty. You'll find your groove again, just get slowly through all the stuff you've been through recently (moving, career change etc) reach its conclusion. Get settled, and you will do better, as you've always done in the past. Cheer up! We love you! :-)

Yikes. I keep hearing that "get your groove back", "all those changes" excuses. I had no problem with a move to Germany - had a very strong 6 (top ten, I think) the first day I was there. Had no problem with time in the desert - managed to pull a 6 now and again there as well. And now, southern California. Heck, the snapshots are awesome here. I just seem to be broken. I do hope it's temporary!

Oh, and I haven't had scores on for several months now. I just watch the average and it doesn't do good things. And there's really no way to avoid the final score once the challenge ends. I've tried tape on the screen but it makes it hard to do other stuff, you know? :-)
07/05/2010 09:20:41 PM · #771
No, Deb, you don't need to get your groove back, makes it sound like a command or a task which you MUST perform. You don't. You will find your groove again. Or your groove will find you. Big diff!

And this site is constantly changing and evolving...I bet anything that just a fe months ago, my Street Portraiture shot would start easily at 6.2 or more, very dismayed when it began at 5.2. But, it's going up.

Think positive! What/how were you thinking during those days in Germany? I'm guessing a whole new culture, villages 100s of years old, a different pace of life. Now you're back in the States and it's all rushrushrush, everything is new and shiny, there isn't as much sense of place and history.

Not saying you have to or even want to leave where you are, but you have to learn to make the most of where you are. There is no such thing as a poor location, just one where you haven't made the best use of it.

MAX!

Deb, you never stopped grooving. Your low scores are a sign of growth. Now sit back and have a mojito.
07/05/2010 10:02:46 PM · #774
Deb's a little warped, so her needle doesn't stay in a groove, she skips to her own beat and we love her for it! (And for those too young to get the "record" reference, google it!). LOL!

Ummm... I started DPC in the states? Spent several years playing from not especially photogenic Texas? I don't know why everything suddenly thinks I am having adjustment issues or something. Not meaning to be oppositional or anything - I find it kind of funny as in funny weird and/or ha ha.

I just don't have whatever it is. To be fair, there are some challenge shots I might not have entered outside of DPL, or others I might have entered instead (which would not have done well either). And I do wish the low scores were a sign of growth, but I think it's more like a fungus. :-) Perhaps some Lysol....

Mostly I've lost time and inclination. New job is keeping me busy and I have no time off yet (must work awhile to earn some); several hours are spent in the car per day. Several weekends are spent visiting with family, which is excellent but nullifies shooting time. The location here is lovely! Not a darn thing wrong with the location at all. Hell, I shot Kuwait and military camps in Iraq. Pretty sure the location is incidental.

No groove lost. No groove to be found. Inspiration may be needed. Some day it'll come back. :-)

What the heck is a mojito??

You guys rock.
