Just send me the information and I'll do it for you since no one else offered. I hate to see someone suffer in a place they hate.

Yeah, MattO, it's been quite a while since humor was fun on this site. So, what the heck, let's reclaim it.

Meanwhile, belly up to the bar with the rest of us. Absolut or sarsaparilla, your choice, or maybe somethin' else? But let's see if we can find the fun in this place before it goes (ahem) belly up.
One more mention of 'belly' and I'll send myself to the woodshed.
:))

you have a woodshed? is that where the serious drinking is?
06/23/2010 08:57:45 PM · #58
What a freakin' joke. The OP joins just to hit us up for some free photos that the 'gov' can use as it sees fit without compensation to the photographer. Not on your life will I enter this crap fest.

Langdon - why not make it a rule that before a newbie can post to the forums they have to have commented on 25 images first, cast 100 votes, and been here for a set number of days? Might get rid of the spammers

HehHehHeh? You like? Mostly the bar is in the living room where it's convenient to break glasses in the fireplace, but heck's bells, it's lots easier to clean up the woodshed!

A bit of nostalgia - remember when someone used to tabulate photography contests so we could look at them and decide whether to partake or not? Some of them had draconian rules. Some did not. 'fraid it was a bunch of years ago now...and times and attitudes change.

Ooops, back to that Tanqueray. Slurp.

There are many ways for citizens to donate to their government(s) to help make the society we share better -- military service, Peace Corps, serving on school boards, etc. ... as a photographer one of the easiest and most painless ways I can do so is to contribute a photo of my choice to a national "bulletin board" for people to see what I'm thinking.

If my picture ends up illustrating a story in a government publication, or even on the wrapping to ten million MRE packages, so be it. Even if they don't put my name on it (I'd rather they didn't in the case of the latter example), there's nothing preventing me from using those for promotional purposes if desired.

What with all the recent pseudo-populist hullaballoo about "the people" "taking back the governement" I'm a little surprised at the tenor of the reaction to this invitation to become directly involved in a government-sponsored cultural project seemingly of direct interest to participants here. Perhaps a simple "thanks but no thanks" or even simply hitting the browser's "Back" button after reading the original post would have sufficed.

Let me also take this moment to remind you all that the appropriate response to a perceived inappropriate posting is to use the Report Post or Report as SPAM links and to not engage in vigilantism -- i.e. responding with such accusatory posts as I've seen here. Those of you who have done so are, IMO, in more flagrant violation of the Forum rules than the OP, especially given the lack of newbieism as a mitigating factor.

Read any "contest" rules fine print (and the forum postings about them here) and you'll similar fine print about "perpetual licenses" and the other specifics of concern mentioned here. In fact, maybe you all better re-read the DPC Terms of Use (especially Section 6.2) before posting any more pictures here ... :-(

General, I would like to see you in the woodshed.

I cant believe this thread is still alive, and hostile.

C'mon guys. It was a challenge opportunity. We are all grown ups here. If you like it, fine. Go ahead and enter. If not, move on, and do something constructive. Nobody is so dumb here as to go and sign away rights to their life just because a noob said so. Are we? What happened to doing something useful with your time? Or is the real issue somewhere else and you just got a vent to take it out from and on?:-)

.

ETA: Spell check.
ETA2: IMO, bigger spammers are threads where teens plead us to go vote for their entries just because. Jus' Sayyin;-)
