It's again time for my sixth semi-annual photo-trip! I started this tradition two years ago with the painted hills and Hawaii. This one is likely to turn into a GTG. These are the trips so far in order:

Spring 2008: Maui, Hawaii
Summer 2008: Eastern Oregon, Painted Hills and Beyond.
Spring 2009: Paris, France
Summer 2009: Olympic Peninsula and Washington Beaches.
Spring 2010: Arizona wildflowers, slot canyons and rocks.
Summer 2010: Vancouver B.C and Beyond

Very excited for this years trip. Going with user NickDay and will meet up with some other friends along the way. This could turn into a GTG so just pm me or leave a message here in response if you'd like to join in the fun. These are the shots I'm going for, but this is subject to change:

Photo-Site of Vancouver B.C, parks and surrounding area, here.

If you have any Vancouver B.C or surrounding area photos you'd like to share. Post below, I would be VERY happy to see more work for inspiration. I've heard this is a beautiful city with lots of photography options available. Now, this is where I need your help. I'm looking for good photo sites to shoot the city, surrounding area, boats, bays, docks, parks, plants, trees, mountains, valleys, etc. Anything in the area. So I will begin to compile a list of sites to shoot at:

Photo Ops:

Vancouver:
1. Stanley Park + Lions Gate bridge
2. Coal Harbor
3. Porteau Cove along Sea/Sky Highway
6. Grouse Mountain Lookout
7. Lighthouse Park
8. Iona Beach
9. Whytecliff Park
10. Port Mann Bridge
11. False Creek
12. Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens
13. Gastown
14. Granville Island + Garnville Bridge
16. The Vancouver Lookout... So Excited for this! (Photo below)

Seattle:
17. Gasworks Park (Seattle)
18. Space Needle (Seattle) (photo below)
19. Seattle Public Library (Seattle)

ETA: Title is a typo. It's sixth semi-annual photo trip.
Leaving tomorrow, gearing up for B.C!

Oh man, there are SOOO many places here, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to come and explore vancouver with you. Can I join your gtg? What dates are you thinking?

Do you want a list of things to see here? its really a long list depending on what you like to shoot.

There was a recent thread asking about photo suggestions in Vancouver.

And the list with Vancouver in the subject:

Off the top of my head:

I live in the country one and a half hrs east of the city and, generally, avoid going in, despite the photo ops I know exist.

Stanley Park has a heron rookery at its SE access, on English Bay.
Eagles go fishing at 1st Beach sometime at 6am, a 5 minute walk along the sea wall from there. There's an eagle's nest about 25' up in a lone tree at the very eastern tip of Vanier Park, between the Planetarium and Burrard St. bridge. I've been able to get very close flight shots here and perched ones within half a mile after stalking them. Birds are accustomed to people here; you can get very close.

Downtown Vancouver is glass and steel; yuppies and lawyers walk the streets with cell phones attached to their heads, stepping over beggars, puke and candy wrappers that litter the sidewalk.

There are many obvious opportunities for candids and street shots.
The best chess players in the NW occupy the benches at the SW side of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
A few blocks east from here: a sizable Chinatown. At its fringes (towards the East End), particularly Hastings St.: junkies and other addicts, the mentally and socially unstable, thieves, whores, pawnshops and sordid hotels. For added exotica, if you're not afraid, there are the alleys, where one can shoot spectacular steamy dawns and junky idylls.

Coal Harbor (waterfront from Stanley Park east to and past The Sails) is an expansive and civilized promenade and bike path for viewing big yachts, well-dressed women, postmodern structures and families near the fountains. False Creek/Yale Town/the Olympic Village and Science World are similarly close to downtown and offer sweeping views of a soignee, modern city by the water.

The affluent residential areas are Marine Drive W. (South Vancouver), Shaughnessy and West Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay (ferries from here to various islands and to the Sunshine Coast). Whitecliff Park is nearby nice with large boulder formations along the water.

The Sea to Sky Highway is one of the fastest routes out of the city and offers spectacular island views, especially at sunset, if only you can find spots to pull over. One of my favorite here spots is Porteau Cove.

If you have time, take the road all the way up to Whistler, for landscapes, lakes, mountains and waterfalls along the way. If you have more than a day, follow Highway 99 north to Pemberton (lovely valley, high mountains, Birkenhead Park and Anderson Lake). From there, take the Duffy Lake Road (Pass) to Lilloet and, if you're a confident driver with a vehicle that has a wide wheel base and good clearance, return by taking dirt roads east from Lillooet through Gold River canyon, then south through the tunnel at the Hydro dam and again east up and down steep mountains through the communities of Seton Portage, Divine and Mt. Currie (Native Reserve) back to Pemberton.

Another, longer way out of the city is east along Highway 1 past Chilliwack (where the suburbs end and cows, tractors and pick-up trucks replace the beamers. Harrison Hot Springs has a beautiful Lake -snow-capped peaks overlooking lake and islands. It's long enough to connect to the Duffy Lake road via a logging road at its north end (Port Douglas, capital of BC for three days during gold rush) and deep enough for sturgeons. Harrison Hot Springs itself has a pristine and expansive view. Boats are available to be manned or chartered to take you to falls, islands or along a labyrinth of shores.

Anyway, I'm probably not the best person to ask for photo ops. I don't, typically, seek them out.

Thanks zz!

to friska...

Maybe, however, we'll have to see how long it's going to take us to get to vancouver. Traveling will probably take up 4/7 days, there and back for us. I'll have a laptop with internet, so I'll keep you updated.

Anyone please comment to help narrow down the long list of places to go to only the BEST photo ops. We can't go everywhere, and I don't know the area. Anyone who does, please give us an idea of what places are good to shoot and what places aren't.

Thanks in advance!

There are numerous areas listing in the links posted earlier in this thread. They were posted as places to see. You need to look them up and decide if you fancy the locations for your type of shooting or not. ;o)
