OK, I'm trying to change the color of an object to another using the Color Replacement tool. When I do so, it does change the color, but to one that is nothing like the color selected as the foreground. I'm trying to change a cream to a dark red and I wind up with a lavender. I've tried reading the help files, but no help. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

From what I've read it's likely related to the tolerance setting.

Ya, I cranked it up to 100% and it didn't change the color. In the example on the DVD they change a purple shirt to a totally different yellow. It doesn't seem to be working like that at all. It seems like it's acting like an overlay or a translucent layer. The red I'm trying to get to and the cream make a lavendar together or something.

It seems this tool is a problem for a lot of people.

I think I found the answer in a tutorial:

There's one situation, unfortunately, where the Color Replacement Tool tends to fail miserably, and that's when there's a big difference in brightness between the original color in the image and the color you want to replace it with.

I was trying to change a cream to a deep, dark red. Looks like I found the shortcoming on my first try! :)

That tool has been around for some time now. Adobe just hasn't made it novice-friendly yet like the Content Aware Fill which is basically an easier to use patch tool, so you'll have to adjust the luminosity manually as a second step or use the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Another option would be switching to Lab Color, which has a separate luminosity channel.
