They ranked the teams 1 through 48. Highest average (#1) to lowest average (#48). They created two divisions. The top 24 teams went in to Div A. The bottom 24 went in to Div B.

All this talk about percentages -- blah! Its a head to head league, the W-L record is all that matters. You don't see the NBA deciding who gets in the playoffs based on shooting percentage, or points per game, do you? Or MLB deciding the World Series winner based on who hit the most home runs during the season. Or the Super Bowl winner decided by who scored the most touchdowns. It's the joy of sports, the overmatched underdog having a chance to dethrone the free spending Yankees.

W-L percentage, head-to-head matchups, and a play-in round if that's required to break the tie.

And the fact that my team has the lowest percentage of anyone that finished 4-1 has absolutely nothing to do with my point of view. Really.

Completely fair. Next time have Judi, Jason, et al, sandbag a few weeks to bring down their pre-DPL average! ;) The other option is to change how teams are created.

Come on, be fair :-) We are NOT a team of superstars, we are NOT stacked, sheesh. Hiho, wendy, yakatme, penny, brat, jeb? These are not superstars, they are just nice people with decent photography skills. Heck, I'M not a superstar or even close to it; I had by far the lowest starting average on my team, and I think possibly the lowest lifetime average as well. That leaves Doc, Ursula, and Judi, and none of THEM had been doing anything much in the months leading up to the challenge.

Hey!! I resent that!! Even if you think I'm only a nice person with decent skills, my husband thinks I'm stacked!

If you go to the standings page, and then click on your teams (or any teams) score.

6 members started the season over 70%, pretty darn good as far as the seeding was concerned, in fact, you were seeded 7th of 48. . I still think you should have had them sandbag several weeks to get you in to Div B! ;)

Thanks Jason you did a great job the first week when it counted the most to us :)

Seeds 25 through 48 went in to Div B. Seed #25 had a team average near 55%. Seeds 1 through 24 were above 55%.

Thank you - I didn't understand how that all worked (I am sure there was a thread and I just missed it LOL). That makes sense - thank you for clearing that up.

eta: It looks like the top winner from B wouldn't have finished any better than 3rd or 4th in Div A. Seems like some 2nd and 3rd Div A finishers would have won Div B.

I've been posting Overall rankings etc to the following thread which makes for interesting reading.

Personally, I always thought it odd the way teams were distributed into the leagues etc, but I was really just grateful to get the opportunity to compete in the DPL, more so to be part of a great team, invited to join another great team (which I'm pleased to see have done quite well), and compete against some very skilled and respected DPCer.

If I had my way, the structure of the comp would have been a little different, but I'm of the opinion that a slightly flawed DPL is better than no DPL at all...

Langdon, SC, and all DPLers... THANK YOU for a wonderful season. I look forward to rest of it even if my team has been bundled out.

Did I miss the playoff bracket announcement?
06/07/2010 12:04:02 AM · #65
I haven't seen the bracket either and don't see it on the dpl overview page :-(

I see they announced a challenge for the first round of the playoffs, with no teams or matchups announced. Why isn't this being taken care of? Do we even know which teams are actually in the playoffs?

Maybe they forgot about the DPL! ;) It's a bit odd considering that there was plenty of time to answer the questions that this thread brought up, I guess it's only the division winners.

Kind of sad that the owner has abandoned the DPL. It doesn't give the right impression at all. Who are we going up against? Why no info AT ALL DURING THE PAST TWO WEEKS? WTF Langdon?

Hey SC, how about some info for crying outloud!

Getting zero info kind of takes away from this oh so big competition that so many people were talking about for so long and now, we're being ignored. W.T.F. is going on?

Quick question:

Do the overall winning teams have to disband like Ribbon Hogs did? Does anyone know?

Surely not - and go Jawbones - you are awesome!

Ribbon Hogs didn't have to disband. Adding three people with low averages would have been enough to keep the original 7 under the current rules.

Oh - I'll have to go read and see what the rule says. Thank you Sarar for the good wishes.
