Saturday morning I was part of the team hired to cover Randolph-Macon's Commencement ceremonies. Even though I cover all their athletics, the athletic department is separate from the marketing and communications department, which uses other photographers. I was glad to be given the opportunity, especially having the opportunity to hear the keynote address.
Now, as you can imagine, most commencement addresses are fairly suspect and typically filled with standard got-get-ems. This one was quite a bit different. Following is a link to the address. You can either watch it, read it, or do both. It contains a very powerful message, and it's one that needs to be shared. It's the type of message that if pushed to enough ears, hopefully it will be heard by the people who need to hear, or by people that can make a difference because of it.
Something Worth Sharing
The speaker, Dr Ben Carson, is the head of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University; his life story is testament to the American Dream, that no matter how humble and challenging a situation you come from, with commitment, determination, conviction, and vision, you have the opportunity to make something of yourself. To further promote academic excellence, he and his wife founded Carson Scholars Fund; we can only hope they succeed in their endeavors.
