Does anyone here use Paint Shop Pro instead of Photoshop.
I have both but am very familiar with Paint Shop Pro so I use it more... Photoshop confuses me more so I tend to never use it.
Just curious because I see a lot of references to software and stuff that is for Photoshop that doesnt work for paint shop so I would like to see what paint shop people use... and if I am the only one... then I guess I better get familiar with Photoshop LOL

I use it. It will handle most Photoshop plug-ins. (eg. Topaz) So I haven't really felt the need to move up. As my skills improve, if they ever do, I may re-think my decision. |

Hmm..didn't realize that. Its rare that I use PSP anymore since I installed Lightroom however, LR can't do layers so there are some things I need PSP for. Nice to know I can play with some of the Photoshop toys. |

I use PSP. I tried Photoshop and didn't like it. I even use an old version (version 7) of PSP because I didn't like the newer versions. |

It is my weapon of choice. I am using version X2 Ultimate. I tried the 30 day trial of X3, but it didn't have any enhancements for what I do with it.
Here are a couple of threads concerning PSP that you may find helpful:
PaintShop Pro resources
PaintShop Pro side challenge from about a year ago. Lots of good tips and discussion. Also by reading that thread, you will find some other members that use it.
Oh, and there are a bunch of mini PSP how-to's in my own screenshots folder

I'm using 64 bit Win7 and all the Topaz plugins work great. Here's a screenshot and how-to on getting PSP to recognize the plugins. (as I added above, I have collected a few of these in my screenshots folder)

I use "clarify" a lot. I also have the "virtual photographer" plug-in that I like and noise ninja. |

PSP. Yes - In fact I've had years of top-secret military training to allow me to crack secret codes from a distance and read people's thoughts. All with the power of my mind. |

Although clarify is similar in what it does to Topaz Adjust, it is still a little different in how it handles the images. I have found that a modest application of both gives me a more effective look than using a larger amount of either one on it's own. Sometimes I'll put a little Topaz Detail in the secret sauce as well.
Even when doing quick edits of snapshots, I'll usually toss a clarify treatment of +3 on them to add some visual pop.

Actually, the Topaz products are relatively cheap compared to some of the other plugins on the market. I recently bought Silver Efex for $140, and that was a very good deal. If you buy a Topaz product when it is newly released or upgraded, you can often find a coupon code to get a nice sized discount. |

Im dying to get better equipment so I can start making money again with photography... I do shoots now and have a steady clientele but I have to rent my equipment and I lose SO much by doing this... dang man who stole my equipment i hope he rots... wow im so angry. lol going thru a rough patch... sorry you got the vent session... |

Understand. Regardless of the value for the money, anything is still expensive when you don't have that money to spare.
In the meantime, look at it as an challenge to learn how to shoot the best possible with a compact camera. It can be done. I have some high scoring challenge entries shot with a similar compact camera. Which reminds me that PSP has some very good built in noise reduction. I've tried some plugins before but until recently, nothing was enough of an improvement over PSP's included function for me to spend money on.

That sounds like fun. For the first 5 hours, at least. |
