Interesting article on how camera manufacturers are using software, sometimes in-camera, to correct for lens distortion.

Could this have an impact on Basic Editing DPC Challenges? My understanding is you can's use the lens correction filter in Photoshop in these challenges. |

You May "use any feature of your camera while photographing your entry, with the exception of combining multiple captures in-camera."
eta. though you are correct you cannot do this in photoshop as You May Not "distort or stretch your image in any way."

The in camera multiple images use to be allowed
The rule was changed because it gave an unfair advantage to newer cameras that had this feature.
The distortion correction is doing exactly that, distorting and stretching the image to correct for the flaws in the lens, and it's doing it with software, something you can't do with Photoshop.
Canon and other manufaturers are now offering lens correction profiles based on particular lenses that correct the lens distortion in the RAW converter.
Seems like the line is blurring to me. |
