True that. 10D isn't too much faster. I would add that the difference between the top cards may not be worth the price difference purely based on camera performance. If you have a fast (USB 2.0 or FireWire) reader, you'll be pleased with the boost in transfer rate to the pooter, however.
As an example, I use Sandisk 512MB Ultra (original). If I upgraded to Sandisk extreme with my 10D, my write performance in-camera would maybe go up 10%, however my transfer rate to the pooter (using a reader, not the camera) might increase as much as 4x.
For my money, some of the "slightly slower" generation of cards are a good buy.
A final thought: when buying a CF card, consider whether you will upgrade your camera within the next 12-24 months and if you will, try to anticipate how this will affect you card purchase decision, e.g. for those contemplating DSLR, buying bargain-priced cards is not recommended.
