So for a few months we had been planning to take Sofia ( ScooterMcNutty) down to Jennifers ( njsabs) house for senior portraits. She lives about 3 hours south of me but as you all know we felt it was well worth the drive. I already knew from this site what great work she did and she also shot one of my nieces wedding which turned out fabulous as well.
While emailing back and forth Jennifer encouraged me to bring my camera so I could shoot with her, which of course I was delighted to do. When I have the opportunity to learn from someone with that skill set I jump at the chance. So we arrived at her house/studio about 3pm on Sunday, unloaded all of Sofia's outfits from the car and started with some studio shots.
(Jen choosing the wardrobe)
Jen was very gracious with her space, allowing me to jump in and shoot after she got her shots. Then we left for some location shots, again Jen generously offered me one of her 5D's to shoot with! Well at this point I am absolutely giddy, I have never shot with a full frame camera before (it's going to be hard going back to my 300)
After shooting at an old building and a beautiful open field my wife and I left Jen and Sof to go get dinner for both families.
(one of my shots with Jens camera)
We ate some great pizza, got to know her husband and daughters a little bit, talked Jen into doing a quick headshot of me and my wife, hugged, thanked and parted ways at 9pm..........for about 5 minutes.
We got about 3 blocks from her house when POW! the clutch went out on our Mazda RX-8! So I walked back to her house to ask her where there is a mechanic and hotel. Well again in her generosity said we were more than welcome to sleep there. So as I go back to get my wife and daughter knowing I am probably facing a steep bill for the clutch, all I can think about is "wait til the gang on dpc hears I got to stay at Jen's house!"
So this morning I get the car towed to a mechanic, Jen lets us eat cold pizza for breakfast, takes us to the bank, the mechanic AND the train station to get home til the car is done!
So why did I make this long-winded post? Well partly cuz the whole thinkg just makes me laugh, Jen kept cracking up and saying "it sucks about the car, but you gotta admit it's kinda funny"
But I really want to call Jen out for her and her families generosity. As beautiful as her pictures are, her family is even more beautiful, not hesitating a second to help us. She has a friend for life. |

Oh Jason, you are so right: I AM jealous! The very unflattering green icky kind :)
Man. The more I hear of my photographic hero, njsabs, the more impressed I am with her! You'd think surely all that talent and recognition would have made her even ever-so-slightly full of her own importance right? Shouldn't we hate her just a teeny tiny bit for being so perfect? Tee hee
What a GREAT story! Thanks for sharing, Jason! And Jen. . . what can I say. Just thanks for being YOU!!!

The important question, Jason, is were you able to find and copy her secret notebooks while she was sleeping?? That was the whole reason we jimmied your clutch, remember?? |

You forgot to mention the really fun pillow fight we all had, with the feathers flying around and the curlers in our hair. Oh, and those cute pj's you wear with Buzz Lightyear on them.
All kidding aside....it was a pleasure to have you and your family visit. I was excited to spend some great photographer time with you and Sofia. AND.....Sofia is gorgeous, and was such a pleasure to shoot. I REALLY like how many of the images turned out. Thanks for a fun evening and a great story to boot.

The old `my car has broken down, what can I do??` trick never fails... Did it a few times in my youth - believe me it works. |

Sounds like she should count her 5D's, though.... or check them to see if one is just a 5d nameplate superglued on a 30D... :-)
Seriously though--nice story and SUPER photos by both of you -- ditto on wanting to see more. |
