I own Powershot A40, great camera but was thinking of adding another camera
Here is what i need
1 It should accept external flash, if possible have Pc Socket.
2 Manual Focus
3 Be able to print at least pictures from 8x10 onwards.
4 Most important , have a wide range of aperture range, i love to a camera that has in range of f11-14 ,A40 has it.

I was really fascinated by Olympus E-10 and E-20 , but price is almost as good as 300d, so no point buying them now.

Just one thing , how come most digital camera are offering aperture tll f8, i think i may have misunderstood as all review of a 40 say aperture range is 2.8-4.8 while i can use from 8-14 also. I think i am wrong.
Well i shoot in small room and strobes are very powerful and i dont much equipment to be able to reduce their light ( i think it is called deflector, not sure though) , room is small with furniture so i cannot even increase the distance between the dubject and lights.

BTW , how do i use studio strobe , called Prolichrome with digital camera, wont i fry them.
Can one use Safe Sync and use strobe with digicam?
PS don't suggest 300D or D70 as dont have that kind of money.
Any ways what's least i can expect to pay wfor 300d with basic lens kit

I think he 2.8-4.8 means that when the lens is zoomed all the way out you can get down to 2.8, but when you've zoomed all the way in you can only get as low as 4.8.

You are right but , no where except for two lousy lines in manual it says you can use aperture from f-8-14, I mean idea that a camera like a40 offers something that great should not canon advertise more

I'm not a fellow: But....have you gone to your local camera store and held the different cameras you can afford? That's a good place to start. Then You can also check out //photo.askey.net/ for price/and reviews. They also have individual camera forums.
Good luck.

Thanks Justine and sorry for just writing only fellow

Well here in India We get cream of each segment , i mean say 300d, or power shot a80, stores donot stock whole range as in USA.

Main idea to take advice was to know if any members know any camera that fits into my description

"Any ways what's least i can expect to pay for 300d with basic lens kit"

I paid $1,087.00 total at my local Circut City, body with cheap lens. The lens is good enough for me right now and I can always upgrade. Very happy with my purchase.
They say the price will come down, but I was not willing to wait, the price will always come down ;)
Check B and H too, they have no tax and free shipping specials (or at least they did when I was shopping) $999.00.
You can fry your digital camera with strobes but they do offer adapters depending on the system.

Fuji 7000 is a good choice, also for the sensor size 5-7 mm F8 Is very small hole ,F11 is unnecessary!

Thanks for advice, Reason i want a camera with Aperure in range of f11-13 is not for DOF but i work with very powerful studio strobes in a very small room with no equipment to reduce light.

My Snaps at 4.8 are totally overexposed and totally washed out.

snaps start making sense only from f-10 wards
Sample 1 of Need
Second Sample
I can still shift lights for Sample 2 kind of shooting but not for sample 1 kind as my room is small with furniture, so need camera that has aperture in range of f11-14 atleast.
any suggestions

I like my G5, but unless you go to a DSLR, you may not get everything on your list.

You can use an on-camera flash to fire studio strobes equipped with an optical slave. Be aware that some cameras fire a pre-flash in TTL mode and that will likely set off the strobes unless a slave designed for use with pre-flash units is used or the pre flash can be de-activated.

Manual focus is only minimally useful on digicams without optical finders. I typically use mine only as a focus lock.

I have had good luck getting high quality prints made @ 16"x20" after some resizing.

The problem with smaller apertures on small-sensor lenses is that to get something like f16, the physical dimension of the aperture needs to be so small that it causes optical problems with diffraction. If you are looking for small apertures just to decrease light, I would suggest Neutral Density filters instead. Most lenses will give their sharpest results opened up about 2 stops from their minimum aperture. On the G5, this means about f5.6. The G5 also has an internal ND filter that reduces the light by 3 stops.

There are two fantastic sites I recommend you visit:

//www.epinions.com - you can search for digital cameras by price, by megapixel and by zoom lens.
You can then view product details and see reviews from users who bought the camera (kind of like Amazon.com reviews).

The other site is //www.imaging-resource.com/ There are unbelievably detailed reviews for almost every digital camera on the market. The cameras are tested by an expert and have to pass various criteria. It's an excellent source of information for digital photography.

Good luck!

Info on DOF calculating for specific cameras

DOF Calculator

I'd suggest the Canon A80 (~$350) if you can't afford the G5 (~$500). I'm not sure if it has a hotshoe or not.

Although, you might be able to get a good deal on a G3, which is basically a 4MP version of the G5.
