Wow, alot of very negative and almost harsh replies to a fairly innocent thread. I think everyone needs a relaxing vacation to the DR or how about beautiful Haiti? Oh wait, they're in the middle of a bloody revolt, riiiiight.....silly me, slipped my mind with all this talk about not wanting to give someone something for free just because someone else had to pay for it. That's like not wanting to donate food to the poor. lol In all seriousness, though, people seem extra wound up about this topic.

Food for the poor is a little different ;)

I feel it's not a question of poverty, more a question of 'let's try and get something for free'. I struggle to believe that someone whom has internet access, a PC and a digital camera could not raise a measly £25 quid if they were that keen on joining.

BTW and on a totally different note - I have always thought you (GoldBerry) were an old woman, but after looking at your profile I see that your not at all - far from it ;)

Seriously??!!! I FEEL old, does that count? lol
And because of my internet and camera and equipment, etc etc I've had to trim all extra areas of my life which includes not joining a gym, having an expensive car, traveling, or joining internet sites ;-)

Your not old - wish I was 23 not 28 ;D

I see those that may be skint, but then they can still enter photos for free which is the beauty ;)

Maybe we should try just leaving the site as it is for a while... for those of us who have been around for quite some time (I've been around for over a year) there have been a lot of changes to get used to already... I think that for a while, it's time to see how the site evolves on it's own without more changes... it's a wonderful site as is... thanks Drew and Langdon!

I agree completely. Let's leave this site alone for a while. We've had many BIG changes in the last year. Let's give D&L a break and just play with what we have for a while.

23, 28. I be 42..that may be old or not, considering i may live to be 90 i am not half way there yet! I do work with young(er) people and except for the occasional 'old man' jesting comment I don't feel old (most days anyway)

I'd like to see some non -member challenges that allow advanced editing! At least one, let's see what we get!

Interesting idea, but people here are right... If we non-members want more we should pay for it because it isn't fair to members.
We should let this site alone. It's a great site as it is. I just want to thank Langdon nad Drew for making it. It's a great chance to improve our skills in photography, and I think this is the biggest purpose of this site.

I think the point of the whole thread is - why should it be the highest non-member ? Why not give the winner the free month or year ? If they've already paid - add it on as an extension.

Personally, I really don't think it would be a good idea to offer prizes. Though I may be a purest, that's what I love most about this site, because it's not about the prize. Like it was mentioned before, the prize is knowing that you have grown as a photographer and you have had fun doing it.

Not only that, but they (SC and Admins, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU) just got the DQ situation under control and IMHO having prizes would take the fun away and entice more people to try and cheat. (As much as I wish it wasn't this way...)

I must have missed this one, but what exactly was up wih the DQ problem I keep hearing about?

Yeah definetely, I mean there is probably enough cheating for the ribbons in the first place, can't exactly imagine what would happen if a tangible prize were up for grabs.

Really, I do wanna put out my thanks for the Administrators and the Site Council. They really do such an incredible job. I'm sure it is a lot of hard work and they do all they can to do what's best for the site, and for that I give them my thanks.
