I have to be honest, are you sure you are looking at the Sports IV entries? I don't see what you are talking about with regards to not seeing action in the shots. The set up, the anticipation is just as much the action of sports as motion....

Yeah I'm sure. I am not talking about shots where a play is setting up or anything like that. I just thought there seemed to be quite a few (and by that I mean 10-20) that are not really showcasing whatever sport they were shooting. I will be interested to see how the results of this challenge come out.

LOL:-) I guess there was a reason why Aristotle thought a purist democracy is not the best form of governance?:-)

Ok so far, looking at all the participation in this thread,

Minimum (from only the input posted here): 3.0
Maximum (from only the input posted here): 6.4
Average (from only the input posted here): 4.7

That explains why I am hovering around the 'average' mark:-)

Quite the difference in the second 19 voters. Hopefully this trend will continue, as it is I really thought I had a solid 6.0 shot

I am just going to adjust my votes to be 2-3 less than what I think they are. It is complete garbage that someone can post an unexceptional little league picture that his been mimicked hundreds of times, yet they can score everyone else as less than 5.

I just got a 3 from someone, so I will assume it would have been a 6.

So what are people expecting in this challenge when they are voting. I voted higher on the photos that were actually action shots of a sport event (which mine clearly is) and lower on the ones that I felt were posed. I didn't go below a 5 I just didn't rate them as high as the non-candid shots. Because to me that is what I envision for this challenge. So I am still blown away that mine is hanging at a 4.7 when it is clearly an action shot of an actual sport event. If someone could leave a comment as to why they feel this doesn't meet the challenge it would be most appreciated. I love the shot and plan on framing a series of shots that I got for that day. Didn't think I did that bad with my new camera and the fact that I shot at ISO1000 without realizing it. But I thought it came out good besides that and it has also been awhile since I have done any sports photography. Please I just want to understand. Oh well moving on to the next challenge.

Well, my score is slowly dropping, which means I am receiving a lot of 3's and 4's. I might as well level the playing field. By the way, how can I check what votes I have received, score wise?

I also voted those that were staged lower than others, for me, that was part of the challenge a basic editing challenge without being able to control the light or shoot it over and over until I got it right.

edited to add: I also kept in mind composition under these challenging conditions. Especially if you were stuck on the sidelines of play or behind barriers.

Because you are getting low votes - you are now going to give them out? Really, that is how you would want to level the field?

Dude! You've been here a few weeks and this is your first challenge. Chill out! Besides, declaring that you are purposely going to vote all the images down because you are not getting a good enough score is kind of against the rules i think. You may be suspended or banned if you keep that up.

Remember. When it comes to DPC it is the numbers that are wishy washy and abstract not the fun or creativity.

Being here a few weeks doesn't mean I didn't lurk before that. When challenges that win consistently receive a average score of 6-7, it is kinda disheartening, and if it is known all throughout this website that people purposely sabotage the voting, what else is there to do? If 10 is perfect on a normal scale, but the winners receive an average of lets say 7, how is it any different if I curve my perfect score down to 7?

My point is this. More than likely, people judge pictures in comparison to their own. They think their little league shot, with no difference than any of the tens of thousands of other little league shots, is a great picture. Because they think their picture is great, they vote on the other pictures according to how great they think their picture is. Then you get the people who do actually have a great picture, and they go through dishing out tons of 1's and 2's, or maybe a little better, just to give their picture the edge.

I never said I was sabotaging or voting unfairly, I merely said I was grading on the same scale 90% of the other voters grade on.

A small point of clarification....A 3.77 vote given is not what 90% of other voters grade on. The average vote given is around 5.5 for all votes.

Please read what I said. If the average vote is 5.5, then that is the scale I will grade on. If my average score was 7, I was obviously rating pictures way higher than I should have been, according to the DPC average.
