"We're pretty good." - Yes, you are! I particularly enjoyed "Shady Grove". |
Thanks! We have a great time!
Ja-9, we've never performed in Florida, but it sounds really fun! We should totally go there...in the winter!

Seriously I've played prolly a little more than half of almost as long as Mick and feel the same about my skillz. I did bands in Highschool (did anyone cover KISS before they became popular...that went over big) and a couple club bands while in the Suck (Marines) but now play to piss the neighbors off.
Anything with a distortion pedal (I use a Boss GT-3 effects board now) works for me. I can throw down in the style of Leppard, Scorps, AC/DC some of the harder Tesla. Been playing around in the Drop D world for the likes of Linkin Park, Staind and others to kind of get with the program. I'm a mess when it come to styles as I grew up listening to Ritchie Blackmoore, Jimmy Page, Tommy Iommi, Randy Rhodes, Zack Wilde, Angus Young, Pat Travers (Pat Thrall), Ronnie Montrose, Robin Trower et el...heavy but all over the place.
I do have this rythym track (I layed down and lost it) that I call Get off the Phone and Drive no weird tunings but somewhere between RATT and Queensryche for a rythym; I should lay it back down and pass along to you drummers and bassists and see what we can come up with. |
oooh...Ronnie Montrose!
Ronnie Montrose |
Remember that 18 year old kid that sang for him...what was his name again? Uh...Sammy Hagar, I beleive.
Edit: Cool shot of Ronnie! Dudette, you got some way cool stuff over there...Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper (I seen him with the Scorpions), Styx (I just had front row at the 08 Renegade tour)...nice stuff. |
Wow! I thought I was reading my bio there for a second. Very similar tastes in music. BTW - I actually had Ronnie Montrose sign an old Ibanez of mine. He was "just your average guy", but very nice, and had that "something". Like an aura, maybe. Energy. Only thing is, now I can't play that guitar anymore, since he signed it on the pick guard.
:-O
Besides guitar, I've played piano (at gunpoint for about 4 years), saxophone, marimba, harmonica, ukulele, a little bit of banjo, mandolin, and dobro, moonshine jug, jaw harp, and spoons. Recently, I've been messing around with some home recording, but nothing spectacular.
Guitar is the love of my life though. My wife calls it "the other woman"!

So did anyone get instruments for Christmas? - I got a ukulele...
And my wife is regretting every minute of giving it to me.
I've played the thing almost non-stop since Christmas morning, it's so addictive, and fun, and actually quite easy to play (well, I have piano playing background, but you can do nice stuff with three or four chords on this thing)
Our 6yo got bongos, to go with his drum kit. So you can imagine the peace and quiet in our house. |

I got her a sat-nav... So she can get as far away from the house as possible when we're jamming... |

That's apparently the hot new instrument -- congratulations!
I sort-of acquired a band starting 2-3 months ago -- we've been practicing once a week pretty regularly. :-)
I'm thinking of getting myself a more up-to-date (4-track) digital audio recorder ... |

Thanks!
And yeah, because the ukulele is so fashionable there are tons of tutorials and stuff on youtube, which is great.
You should put together a few demos with the band, I'd love to hear them. When I was doing this stuff a few years ago I did everything with a tascam I/O box and N-Track software for the mixing and effects.
Of course, dedicated digital 4 or 8-track gadgets give the advantage you don't have to lug your laptop around. |
