Why is the camera always set to 10 sec timer mode every time there's a true Kodak moment? I see a moose in perfect pose, grab the camera quickly and click as soon as I can just to hear "beep, beep, beep, be..." while the moose runs away. Argh!

dude, all the cool kids turn off the beeps. :P

question: is it better to miss one shot because of a timer malfunction, or accidentally shoot a whole day on your highest ISO?
I choose timer malfunction. You can always turn the camera off while the timer ticks, turn one dial off of timer mode and turn it back on and hopefully the moose is still in the moment.

ISO was going to be my 2nd why... :) I agree with you though.

ISO, schmeISO:
Was out on my 677th real estate photo shoot. Beautiful cottage in the mountains. 2 hour drive each way. Took all the pictures and showed them to the customer. We were both satisfied.
On my way back I stopped to take shots for the ZEN challenge. And of course for DPC purposes I carefully check all the settings on the camera. And ISO was set to 1250 from the night before... ouch! And this for a job that will be displayed on posters...
I thought it would be a disaster but the low noise levels of today's cameras saved me. It's not perfect by any means but acceptable. Next time I'll double check!

I am liking this auto ISO thing on AV mode a lot [not sure what bodies have that...] :-) Could have called it a "robs stupid so fix it button" cause the nbr of time I forget to turn down ISO is embarrassing....

Unfortunately, the camera will also crank the ISO unbeknown to you if it feels that the other settings can't produce the proper exposure.

Next time find a moose with the patience to wait the ten seconds.
