Hey all,

About 4 weeks ago I ordered a lenshood for my 10-20mm and guess what, the damn thing probably hasn't even been MADE yet. Meantime I either get little globs of lens flare, which can be cute but distracting, or just all-out glare. So I decided to see if I could find an alternative and found this site:

Best of all they're FREE!!!! So I plan to get some grey construction paper, cut it to size, print me out a lenshood and put it to work. Plan to also use a suitable light craft varnish on it so it holds up a bit.

And if anyone has already found this site, what do you think?

Unless you're using your lens hood to also protect your lens, this is great!

Cases where you might be using it to protect your lens include fisheyes without built-in hoods that don't accept a front filter.

Also, a lens with a big metal hood mounted on a big metal camera has a sort of innate body protection - dropping the whole thing on a flat surface guarantees that either the body or the hood will hit first, and the other will follow, so the body is never hit. Then again, such a camera and lens would probably cost so much you'll be as careful as a brain surgeon with them...

Good points all, George. However I wouldn't even be thinking of downloading templates for lenshoods off the internet, if only those jokers at the lenshod-making factory would get their butts in gear and actually make one for me!

And in terms of protection...hmm...my D90 is largely plastic as is my (so far) one and only lens hood. So in the event of a drop, everything would go kablooey. So certainly I would never expect a lenshood to add a level of protection!
