Well, I am officially in.
This is probably the challenge I am most nervous about so far. I actually kind of like my shot, but I am just so new to this sort of thing that I have no idea if it is any good or what to expect.
Lol, thanks for pushing me to submit, guys. I needed it.

If you're getting started learning about what is good or bad in your photos I think these challenges can be great for learning. Still, if I have a shot that I know is headed for trouble and I know why it's that way, then I tend to not enter it (or redo it).

Then again, I've been on hiatus from dpc & not doing much photography for a few months, so now I'm looking at the challenges as a good way to motivate me to get back into the swing of things.

one more thing, you're a fool if you don't use focus groups.

Surveys and other market research tools help as well, remember you're creating a product in order to sell it to the masses.

I'm not with you in this thinking. I'm not interested in selling to masses. One or two buyers (i.e. FAVs) are much more important to me than a high score. I like to feel that someone has understood me, and likes what I have said.

I only participate in the challenges that are of interest to me. You mentioned that you want to improve but don't want to fail. Actually, I believe failure is what allows improvement...

:)

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure you missed the point entirely

I'd definitely say you should submit it. Even if I'm not happy with the result, if I tried to set things up or try something new I feel I'm wasting my time putting forth the effort... and then not even following through.

Probably so -- I usually do.

I think having a seminar, letting people know that they are what's important, not their photography, would be wonderful.

You took the shot specifically for that challenge, and then went to alot of effort to edit it. You should enter it, because that was your intention from the begining.
Scores and comments are just fluff, and will help with your next effort!

I usually only enter for the posthumous ribbons! : )

I spent years not entering because I knew my equipment, pp software and photographic skills were not up to what I saw being submitted. Once I decided to enter challenges (started only a couple of months ago) I feel my skills are starting to improve and that you can learn to take photos that are within the limitations of one's equimpment & software.

I've also found that by entering challenges I now appreciate more the effort taken by others and the imagination of those that enter photo's that are outside the norm and now score differently. I still have a way (a looong way) to go before I expect to see one of my entries on the front page but what I'm really hoping for soon is to get a Posthumous acknowledgement.

So enter as many challenges as possible and hope to learn and improve, that is if you take mediocre photo's like me.

I feel pain if I miss a challenge. Sad, eh?

Just a thought ... If you think it will get slaughtered, think it through. WHY will it get slaughtered? Then reshoot to correct that WHY.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

THEN submit your best version for the fun and the learning experience.
