It seems all the IR remotes that work with Nikon SLRs on eBay have a simple "S" button for Nikon and a whole bunch of other stuff for Canon/Pentax/Samsung. I want one that can do bulb mode on a D40... where do I get one that won't cost an arm and a leg?

well.. you can get the Nikon ML-L3 for 14.49usd from amazon.
i have one and love it. I use it with my D40x and it works great. the remote has only one button and in bulb mode you press it once to open the shutter and then a second time to close the shutter, when you feel is the right time. i love it and for the price you cant go wrong. Heres a link for you to check i out.
hope ive been of some help

OH! So the third-party ones must be the same. Choosing between the Nikon and the third-party may be a problem, though... the Nikon one is only $15, but I'm part of a photo club and I could use the added "other camera" support. Hmm...
...maybe I'll just buy the third-party one with the club's money ;). They had enough for a Canon XSi and a Canon SD1200 IS, so they can definitely afford a $10 remote.
Thanks for the link :)

I would suggest getting a radio transmitted remote. The D40 remote is okay, buy you really have to point it directly at the camera. Try a search for Meike radio transmitters. Sorry I have no link or web info, but you should find it.
They are usually around $20- 25US ish, so not crazy expensive. I have one for my 5D and it is impressive. 4 dip switches to change radio frequency, 200 yard range and a 2 second delay feature. Works very cool in bulb too. It starts exposure upon the first button press, ending the exposure on the second press. Oh and acts just like a two stage shutter on Dslr. Mine is a Meike Mkrc6 model. Take into consideration, this is not Nikon or Canon quality. But for the money, I have not found a better performing camera accessory. Even came with a battery! |
