I think my monitor (a Phillips 109B5) is starting to go. Actually I know its starting to go. It goes dark (not black though) for a few minutes and then comes back and then goes dark again. It also appears to be out of focus for lack of a better term. A lot of times it will be fine for extended periods of time though so there's no rush on replacing it. That being said I am starting to get a list of monitors to choose from.
I've heard that CRT's are still the way to go for accurate colors and the widest gamut however a decent LCD would be acceptable too (scratch that...I don't think I can even buy a CRT from where I was planning on buying). I don't need/want a huge monitor but I think I want one with a bit of size to it (Probably no bigger than 24"). Its going to primarily be used for photo editing so I don't need one that displays video well and I don't necessarily need HDMI hookups. (I mean they'd be nice but they're certainly not a necessity). I don't want to break the bank buying this either but I don't want to go too cheap.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

I can't offer a suggestion on which monitor to buy, but I can offer this...
Don't buy a CRT.
Why?
I have a CRT, a decent one, that I use as my primary monitor. To my right, is an el cheapo LCD which displays photos FAR better than the CRT.
I'm watching posts like this to help decide which LCD I am going to buy. |

I just made the jump from CRT to LCD. After a lot of research and two returns (two different models), I finally settled on the NEC MultiSync 2490WUXi2 (24"). I also purchased the SpectraviewII calibration package as a bundle with the monitor. I couldn't be happier, and I'm pretty picky! Love it. Mine was purchased at B&H:
//www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/632158-REG/NEC_LCD2490W2_BK_SV_MultiSync_2490WU2_BK_SV_24_Widescreen.html. The monitor without the calibration package is $729.99 at B&H...
Mine is used primarily for photo editing...
For a wider gamut, there is also the 26" NEC MultiSync 2690WUXi2...

A little bit cheaper and a little smaller (22 vs 24). Without the spectraview its 549 CAD at Vistek. (799 with)

Not great but decent and certainly a step up from what I have now...

The last monitor I posted might be the one I go with. My tax rebate came in a couple of days ago and I might take the plunge. (This old CRT is getting hard to look at).
