I have something going on which I've never heard of before. While looking through my viewfinder, if I shift my eye just a little left or right on relation to the finder, vertical objects tilt away from the direction I move. This seems to have begun after I took my camera out and noticed the diopter adjustment was not where it usually is, so I've tried to find the setting I had for that before, but I can't seem to find that position. This happens with different lenses, and I've had two photog friends check it, and they've noticed the issue, too.
I got my camera from Canon as a refurbished model through they're loyalty program, but I've had no issues with it until now.
Any ideas?

Never heard of or experienced such a thing. Makes me think the mirror is misaligned or something...

Oy, I hope not...this body didn't have the 1-year Canon warranty as a refurb...thanks for the response.

It's probably normal. When you shift your eye left or right, you are now looking through the lens at the back of the finder off-center. You'll see distortion of the image and CA as you move away from center. You may just have not noticed it before. I'm not completely ruling out that there may be some issue with a shift in the position of the lens at the back of the viewfinder, but I doubt it.
You should compare it with other similar cameras to see if yours is much different. |

Yes, I will definitely compare it to another dSLR tomorrow!

I compared another DSLR, and my 50D does indeed seem to be doing something weird. No matter how I adjust the diopter wheel, I still get that wacky distortion unless I keep my eye exactly "connected" to the eyecup. I still can't seem to find anything online about this. |

Yeh, that doesn't sound right... you should be able to move your eye a moderate distance before the distortion becomes obvious. Sounds like something is really out of alignment. |

Great...well, at least it can still take photos without issue. |
