I vividly remember when I first started working, and got a RAISE from $1.50/hr to $1.75/hr. I was thrilled. I went out to celebrate...

Doing both full time, I'm well acquainted with the frustrations of each.
Work= highly repetitive tasks, in the same place, in the same subject, with the same outcome. (slight correlation to effort)
School= highly repetitive tasks, done about different subjects, to varying degrees of result (direct correlation to effort)
Work= Dismal attitude of "we do it that way because we do it that way"
School= Dismal attitude of "we do it that way because we do it that way"
Work= Enables you to survive comfortably
School= Forces you to live uncomfortably and poorly

| That's so low haha when I started about 3 years ago the minimum wage was $7.50 so its gone up almost $3. In Ontario at least. Which is awesome for me! |

Minimum wage was $1.25 US when I got my first job, but then soft drinks were a dime, and gas was .35, milk .35/gal, cerial .25-.35, Bread .25-35. We started losing ground when we went off the gold standard. Gold was $35/oz at that time. You could actually live ok on about $50 or $60 per week back then.

You must be a tad younger than me then because I remember all of those things just a tad cheaper than that. I also remember that ice and milk were delivered by a horse drawn wagon, that we had an outhouse at the back of the property near the lane.
I wanted to enlist in the USMC like my brothers but my mom would have none of it so I jointed the RCMP in 1966 for $4,800.00 CDN a year and if I remember correctly, my father's exact words were: "...and what exactly is it that you know that would be worth $4,800 bucks a year?"
The accountant just recently gave me the summary for this year's taxes... I think I'm gonna cry. :O(

You are a little older, but not much. A 67 Corvette was about $4,000, or 4,500 tricked out. It was about the same price as a nice house with lot.
