A handful of us from our local photography meetup group will be doing an overnight visit up in Lake Wales FL and visiting Bok Tower Gardens on Saturday May 22nd (we're coming up from Palm Beach County on Friday night & will go home Sunday some time).
I was just thinking that it would be very cool if some FL DPCers could meet us there. Anyone interested? |

I'm not in the area, but if I were I would love to go. Bok Tower Gardens is a great setting with tons of great picture possibilities. Do take some time just to sit and listen to the tower. It has been years since I was there. |

That's a long time out yet. If I am not fishing in the Keys at that time, I think that I will be able to make the GTG. I will know more as the date gets closer.
I think that Ja9 will want to be there. It seems like I remember her mentioning this GTG to me a while back.

It is a long way off but that is pretty close to my brothers wedding so it will be hectic all during that time period. I will keep you updated!

I'd be so excited if I got to meet just a few more DPCers! I'll watch this thread and as it gets closer I'll contact each one of you to follow up. |

Bump. Any one else interested. DPC'ers nearby could drive instead of renting rooms.

I think they open at 8...
I'm also going to plan a nice group dinner for either Friday night or Saturday night, depending on everyone's plans. |

I would like to attend. I will have to check the schedule when it gets closer to the time. I have yet to meet a DPCer so this would be exciting. I have never been to his location either. |

What about the time they close? Maybe we can get some sunset shots there? Just a thought. That is if I go I will most likely stay the whole day.

Yeah, I was thinking about sunrise pictures, too. This is my photography weekend so I would be perfectly willing to get up super early to get some good shots. The thing is, I don't know the area at all and don't know if there are places nearby that would be appropriate.
That stinks that they close before sunset. Wonder if they can offer a special extended time for photography groups. ;o) |

There is a big lake a few miles south of the tower, which may be a good place for a sunrise. Google pic looks like there is a park on the west edge, so sunrise there might turn out Ok. mbrutus2009 is in that area, so he may be aware of a prime location for sunrises nearby.

I'm hoping to attend. Looking forward to a trip to Lake Wales. Last time I was there was ages ago for my parents 50 wedding anniversary dinner at Chalet Suzanne. My husband and I hope to go back there while we are on the Bok Towers trip. |

Oooh, we were thinking about staying there but decided on one of the hotels. Is that place nearby? Would it be a good option for dinner maybe?? |

not to put a damper on this...but ck out the menu prices....it is quite pricey especially for dinner not to mention it looks like a "nice quiet, cosy place to have dinner with your special one"...oh, but they do have a really nice place for lunch on the grounds. It is very fresh and good...Blue Palmeto Cafe

All I can think about right now is the lake as you said. For me I don't know the area all that well because I just go to school here and live on campus. I know where the food is being that I am a college student and I love to eat! Haha! |

Was visitng my brother near Orlando yesterday talking about taking a trip to the Gardens this weekend, he says there is a small german shop nearby that sells delicious bread (something along the lines 0f 30 varieties, all fresh) and offers samples of bread and wine. I will check it out further and post here.

I will say that I've heard that it is superb!!! |

I have heard that the Chalet food is awesome too, but the Cafe is more my style. I have a feeling that a gang of DPC'ers having lunch or supper at the Chalet might be "quite noisy" and may be distracting to the other people who are expecting romantic dining with their spouses or significant others.
If there is a right sized meeting room at one of the hotels that can be used, then all could pitch in for catering and make it a shooters and guests only thing. That way we could get a projector, put up a screen and hash over the day's pix as we eat.
Not related to meals, but outdoors would probably have mosquitos that time of year, so we also need to think about that possibility.
