Not sure I like the idea of a poll for the speed challenge. One thing I like about speed challenges is that they're out of the blue (usually) and you have to think quick to come up with a good idea and photo (one reason I don't enter all of them).
What is to stop someone from setting the date on their camera to April 4th (Easter Sunday) and taking the picture now, once they see where the poll is going, of course.
And even if everyone is honest and they take the photos on the actual date, they get almost a week to plan, buy props, etc.
I prefer the surprise element of speed challenges.

I agree it does kind of take away the spontaneity of it and give lots of planning time, but as the headline read, "let's try something different". |

nice gesture. (maybe could use one more option for the secular, childless diabetics...) |

I like it, although it probably isn't going to be helpful to me. No marshmallow Peeps here so if that is selected and it probably will be, I wont get to play. I voted for Easter Basket because it is the most common feature of Easter and more than likely easier to obtain for most people and I feel would be most interesting subject to look at. But it is currently last place of the 4. |

Maybe so - but there are no 'Peeps' (?) outside of the USA as was discovered last time they ran that challenge.
Maybe they should do a CLR challenge ( Chicken, Lamb, Rabbit ) - ok nothing to do with Easter per se, but as relevant as the curren suggestions in the poll and it has a certain photo ring to it . . you know " why go HDR when you can go CLR ?"

I just took a shot of some kids pulling jelly beans and peeps out of an Easter basket. Looks like I'm covered no matter what. |

We have them in Canada. Not that I'm wishing for a Peeps challenge, just saying. |

The challenge theme may not be anything connected to the poll. The poll may just be a smoke screen. The UK bunch may have problems with shooting kids and being harassed by the local cops. What happened to all the kids in Newfoundland?

Kind of a biased set of challenge ideas. Maybe there are other Easter themes that would appeal to those whose style is darker.
Otherwise, I agree about not pre-announcing a surprise challenge. Kind of like sending a bank a letter announcing a surprise bank audit next week. |

We got NO way to photograph kids here, at least until summertime and the beach, and even then parents get uptight. Geeze...

In all seriousness, if you think dpc doesn't complain, read this thread. :(
It is an extra challenge, assuming it gets scheduled.
If you can't/don't have access to the subject, perhaps don't participate OR come up with an extra creative way to meet it??

Ah, sorry Karmat. I just thought I'd join the general whining, it seems to be so IN these days. I apologize :-)

I agree... I like the surprise element, but I also like them being more general. I voted jelly beans, because I can run out and buy those and then eat them. But my kids are grown, I don't have a basket anymore, and Peeps are blech (JK).
Oh well. "Easter" would have been better. |

Well "duh".....obviously I won't participate if it's a challege where I don't have access to a "prop" or can't come up with an idea. I wasn't complaining per se, simply giving my opinions on the poll and its options. Forgive me for speaking my mind. |

And you well know that being "extra creative" is called a shoehorn or DNMC by 99% of the voters. |

I voted jelly beans. (Too bad CHOCOLATE wasn't an option!) There are no kids around here and I'd probably end up in the news if I took pictures of kids I didn't know. |

If one doesn't have children, or ready access to them, it can be kind of dangerous these days to go out and photograph them. If children is chosen, I'll have to sit this one out. |

Mmmmmmmmmmm CHOCOLATE! I voted for Peeps but a general category of "Easter Candy" would have included Peeps, jelly beans, CHOCOLATE and children consuming/hunting for Easter baskets, and would make for more diverse entries. |
