I started with a Handspring Visor... oh wait.. I started with a Sharp Organizer! (Wow! that goes wayyy back!)... then they came out with the Palm Pilots, but I couldn't afford that. So, I chose the Handspring Visor. Loved it. Still have it. My hubby is rougher on his, so it didn't last more than 5 years (which I think is great anyway), so I bought him a Palm Pilot. During that same time I bought a new computer. Had to send it to a recall to have a power thingy fixed, so, to compensate their customers for the inconvenience, Sony gave a Clie. It was b&w, and I liked my husband's color palm pilot. So, I traded it in for, and payed the difference for, a step up that also has an MP3 player and photo viewer on it. In the meantime, my hubby's Palm Pilot had to be replaced 3 times (in the space of 2 months) because of malfunction. On the third time, we said forget it! Not interested, and he got his money back, and bought the same Sony Clie I have. It is a T-series, and not sure they make that particular model now, but they have a great product. Anyway, we are both very pleased with our Clie's. They have everything a Palm Pilot has, and more, and they work!
Hot sync to you desktop software, and go :)
Hope that helps.

So, I would go Sony or Handspring.

I bought a Dell Axim about 8 months ago, and it's been great. I've never lasted this long with any of the other things I've tried - probably because I can store my pictures and music on a CF card, plus it's easy to share/synch with PC's at work and home.

Pluses to a Dell - everything is always in stock; on-line descriptions of the accessories are helpful; I don't have to talk to a salesman; I've had no glitches in the time I've owned it.

Minuses - you can't talk face-to-face to a local salesman about it; if you want an accessory, your online purchase will be mailed to you; compatability of locally-available accessories and software requires some patience & research - sales associates will shrug you off because you didn't buy their model.

Good Luck - I'm sure you'll enjoy your purchase!

I would go Pocket PC for 2 reasons:

1) Transcriber - which essentialy is hand writing recognition. Most efficient way of entering data into your PDA.

2) MS Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook - applications that are included to communicate with MS Office on your desktop PC. On PDA's such as Palm and Sony, you get 'Documents to Go' which doesn't work as good as the above.

One disadvantage to Pocket PC is that there is less applications available to buy/download afterwards.

Talk to a knowledgeable sales associate to see if this is the right PDA for you. If you do decide to buy one I would recommend any TOSHIBA model.

My wife and I both bought HP iPaq...Windows PC based and very, very fast. Lots of options. Search before this buy suggested that the wave is away from Palm and to Windows based software...but others may disagree.

try a consumer reports site... also any of the larger merchants have websites with information too so that you can do your research and tell her what to get for you. Try Staples, Best Buy, Circuit City, and, of course try the websites for each of the name brands; Dell, Sony, etc. :)

Good luck!

If you have more money, a pocket PC is the way to go. If not, I like the Palm Pilots. I have a M105, but if I were buying one now, I'd get the new Zire with the built in cam. it also plays MP3's and has a memory slot. Mostly I use it to store phone numbers and to beep at me when I need to be somewhere else.

Have had an IPAQ for 2 years and absolutely love it. I have had no problem finding any type of program that I could possibly want online. Definitely recommend Pocket PC.
