Looks like Miah has gone - left a note on his profile saying he quit - ah well I dont think its any loss.

Well they say talent and madness are pretty closely linked!
I personally liked his pictures and as his 'old' bio said he was here to buck the trend. All he had to do was ecce signum!

I think he was just being Mr. Crabby-Pants and needed to take a nappy-poo.

I, for one, don't need members like that. I hate whiners, and this one was terrible.

The email message you receive when proof is requested clearly states the following:

"If for some reason you cannot supply your original right away, please go to the following URL to explain your situation:" (emphasis mine)

I have no clue how you construed this as meaning that there was a "secondary option" where it would be acceptable to never submit proof. This "option" is listed to cover situations where a person cannot submit the original within 48 hours after it is requested, because they are out of town, etc. Not because they don't have the original.

In addition, when you submitted, you checked a box stating:

If requested, I will provide the unedited, original file from my digital camera within 48 hours.

By checking that box, you are agreeing to provide the unedited, original file if needed to validate your entry. And you had to check that box, or your entry wouldn't have been in the challenge.

I don't know about that... there was a picture submitted of a teddy bear holding a dildo that did not get dq'd.

Why dont you post the photo and let us look at it and then you can shut your mouth.

You bitch and complain and yet you dont aske anyone on this site to give any feed back on the photo.

By looking at your photos in your profile and previous challenges, they are right on par with most everyone here.

Not everyone is perfect and neither am I, most of my photos are ok at best and lack a lot of interest, but a few have done really well.

Because he took his camera and went home...

Well, when you've gotten enough attention for a while, I suppose you'll stop ranting.
02/20/2004 08:20:14 PM · #62
imho its not the photo that he was ranting on about but the method by which it was dq'd (will that ever become a noun?). It seemed to me to be more a case of "hey, I broke no rules so allow it". I liked the photo, it was very emotive but was not sure it 'met the challenge'. Maybe his next shot to fame will be cutting his ear off? we are certainly talking about him and those that saw it will rememberhis picture. 10/10 for propaganda!

I didnt even see the picture. :( I wanna see it.

Wow. I initially read sarcasm into his post. Having read the rest, it's just sad. I never saw the pic either, and now that he's taken it to this ridiculous extent I don't have any interest to see it.

From mindless but oddly humorous (asshat and all) to unfortunate in 2.5 seconds. That's some kind of record.

Now this is a RANT! Miah -- It sucks, but you didn't follow the rules your bad.

The rest of the folks. He's got the right to unload. You don't like his style....move on

Cheers

Of course he had the right to unload, we all do, but I dont believe there is any place on this site for foul and abbusive language. I myself have a foul mouth and eff and blind most of the time. If people need to do this then there are plenty of other notice boards on other sites that will accommodate them.

I think people have the right to let whiners like that know how they feel about them. I don't believe in freebies. You wanna dish out, you better be ready to take it in.

Doesn't matter if you like the rules around here or not. Only thing keeping you from being a paying member is you! I really don't like the rule of the top so many finishes having to submit orginals to ALL of site council and yet I am here and I paid my membership for another year.

You can say anything you want, whine all you want about rules, policies and whatever else you can come up with but truth be known if you wanted to be a memeber those things wouldn't stop you, they are only excuses!

I agree, you better not give it out unless you are prepared to take it in as well.

I have taken notice of Jeremiah since he started submitting. He is most certainly not your average dpc'er! I hope he will find it within himself to stay around, paid or not, because it is good for the community to have people like him among us. His style as a photographer is still evolving as his skills develope. He has shown potential and an interesting imagination. He has something to say but we are not understanding him yet. I'll go out on a limb and predict that if he stays around we'll see ribbons on his profile page within a year or two. I would like him to contribute here and exert some influence on the direction we take, but to do so he must integrate himself into the community more than he has. Using foul language and blasting those who run the site is surely not the easiest or quickest way to make a contribution. This community is diverse and tolerant enough that, given the desire and effort, almost anyone can find a place here without sacrificing their personal integrity.

I didn't get to see the entry that got dq'ed so no comment there. But if one of mine were scoring at a 3.2 pace I might consider a dq to be a pardon.

Very well said Harvey.

I have not read all the posts, it's quite late here and I am gonna sleep after posting this.

However, I like that is a rant. It will allow me to speak more freely.
Since I am running another contest related site I feel difficult to chat here (as much as I would) because I know there is people out there who do not understand (or believe like I do) that improvements come through confrontation and, substantially, hard work.

The main thing I wanted to say is: this thread may have been started by a deluded guy but it is actually very important for this site and for any site willing to grow.

I don't think that it was in the author intention to post a question in the view of helping the site but it is really important to know why people out there, which could have become a member, have not done the move yet.

This definitely helps, whenever possible, in refining features, processes and whatsoever and accomodate the site to become constantly better and better.

DPC is undoubtely one of the best sites on the Net about digital photography, but that does not mean that perfection is achieved.

As a prospective member, I like to think that the site will become better and better.

Coming to myself, I am not yet a member mostly because of a silly detail (I would like not to open a PayPal account and, living in UK, I have not found another convenient way of sending my money).

In addition to that, I have not had time and opportunities to take pictures since last October, therefore I am not under pressure to subscribe at the moment being not able to be productive as a photographer anyway (but I really hope that my trend will change in next months).

Finally, I don't like the scoring system (I am mentioning it because I saw there is another thread but being not a rant, I prefer to express my opinion here) but that will not stop me from subscribing: the site has too many excellent features and it is perfectly acceptable to have one which I do not really like.

That's all. I'll give a look at this thread to reply tomorrow.

Again, it is very important to look at the reasons who stop people from subscribing. Not all of them can be adjusted, but if you discover a couple of improvements which can remove some resistance, then why not implement them? This thread introduces a question which should be asked periodically.
