Hey everyone,

I'm not much of a tele guy, but I am looking to complete my kit with an inexpensive lens in the range of 70-200.

I've come across the Nikon 70-210 f/4 (made in the 80's I think) for 200$ and I haven't been able to find much info on the net about this lens (it was Nikon's first auto-focus zoom lens), and very few peole seem to have it here.

The problems that I am aware of with this lens are 1) slow autofocus and 2) some lenses have autofocus erros (as it was a first for Nikon). Otherwise, from what I understand it's a pretty sharp lens.

Soooo, anyone else have experience with this lens?? If so, any advice is appreciated. Note that the 70-300 VR seems to go for around 400$ used, so that could be another option.

Thanks!

Ken Rockwell's Review

You should take all of his reviews with a grain of salt, especially when he starts talking about build quality like it's the most important thing in a lens.

ETA: There's also the push-pull 70-210mm f/4-5.6 AF/AF-D. Ken says it's "smaller, slower, and cheaper." However, it focuses faster.
