Excuse me Jac? She was participating in an Inuit custom. Are you calling all Inuit sickos?

No, just Madame Prorogue.

Ahh yes, but I never said we didn't protect our endangered animals just not the seal pups because, well, they are not endangered.

Just my observations from the photos...

In this photo we can see that the seal was dragged in a circle, probably because the person doing the pulling was using the cleaner and wider tail to drag.

In this one you can tell that the body was not fully pressed to the ground. Probably just the head...an animal would not take the time to move the carcass too far. And even if it did, the animal would be pulling at a lower position where the full body weight would be causing a larger track.

Hopefully, whoever poached this pup for a small piece of skin gets caught and fully prosecuted...how sad.

Excuse me for making you think I was. I call her a sicko because in her real everyday life she does not eat raw seal heart organ meat but as a politician in front of cameras she does. That's all I was saying. I sincerely am sorry if you were offended Colette.

Cows arn't endangered in Australia.this guy was jailed for cruelty to Cows through not feeding them (came up forth on that quick google search). I am sure I can find many, many more cases
//www.highbeam.com/doc/1P1-168390834.html

The celebs in the show were threatened with possibly 3 years jail due to their killing of a rat............

OK, back to the actual case in hand. The pup was killed prior to moving, based on the blood at the original site and left behind when dragged..........not a lot of blood though at the site.

That drag does not look like one that would have occurred by an animal......it has been dragged by a person.

I agree that it looks like that person grabbed the tail and thus explains the circular drag at the original scene. This animal was moved by a human (or multiple) after it was killed (or seriously wounded).........

So it's not part of her every day activities. It's part of the culture she was participating in. I think it would have been rude and unsupportive not to participate. Since the Inuit she was spending time with are Canadians, they deserve her support just as much as those who may find the ritual not too pleasing.

Unfortunately, your laws may b=not be as tough as ours on this...........

Deliberately causing death of a protected species carries a prison term back home, especially if cruelty is involved......

Show me a case where someone went to jail for hurting an animal please. Seals aren't protected. We kill hundreds of thousands every year here in Canada. ;)

www.fuglyblog.com As a professional horseperson, I follow this blog religiously, and there are many, many cases of horse abuse/neglect and some of the perps actually do see the inside of a jail cell.

I would agree this does not look like the workings of another animal. but what troubles me is I do not see any human footprints. I see foot prints along the trail from the seal pup being dragged. Looks like some dog prints and a few bird prints. I am only guessing here but if those prints are still intact and the drag trail is still intact human prints should still be there also, especially since humans weigh more and would leave a deeper print in the sand. Bear, can you post a full sized copy of the drag trail?

How big was this seal pup? I was just thinking that if it weren't any great size, a person would probably have picked it up and held it away from their body instead of stooping over and dragging it through the sand.

Actually no...90% of seals killed during the harvest are killed with firearms. Additional information in this regard can be found Here

Well, having reviewed the image, I too am of the opinion that this is not something that was caused by an animal... at least not the four legged variety.

I am puzzled as to the reasons why someone would do that. A portion of a pelt is of no use to anyone, particularly if you have no idea on how to tan a pelt.

All we can hope for is that the authorities can establish who or what did this and deal with it accordingly,

We need more theories....

Chupacabra?

Blood-sucking aliens?

I agree, that lack of human footprints confuses the issue. I am wondering if he was using the seal to cover his tracks? As far as picking it up to carry it, it was maybe 3 1/2, 4 feet long max, but I'd guess it weighed 75 lbs, in that neighborhood. You'd get messy as hell doing that.

I'll post a full size JPG a little later...

These are linked to full size JPG files. Not processed at all except for RAW conversion with a little contrast added and some darkening, better for the details.

Why do the edges of the wound look like they have been burnt and sealed.

Aha, blood sucking aliens with [Austin Powers] "Lasers" [/Austin Powers]

:-)

Doh' I was going to go with the aliens theory!

I'm going with salmon getting revenge then. Look for the salmon with a seal skin hat.

I suspected Simms all along, but I had this artist's sketch done to put up next to him and the aliens in a lineup.

They'll stick a warning sign in the sand with an announced $10k fine, but when something's actually happened it just lies there with no one looking into the matter. I agree the cut looks as though it's been burned.
