To Art Roflmao, thanks for the kind words. I really like what you did with the the second, third, and fourth shots. Was that your 10-22 or a fisheye? I will have to try that.
And to Bear_Music, I should be more precise with my language. You are exactly correct. When i said i use natural light, I should have said ambient light, because it includes all the lighting in the homes as well as natural light coming through windows and skylights. The architectural lighting can sometimes be dramatic and is always important.

10-22, 4 or 5 shots stitched together. |

The MLS photos for 90% or more of the homes I've been looking at online in a little community called Lompoc suck SO bad that I am tempted to offer my services for free. The market there is horrible. The town is a ghost town, more or less. Which is very sad, since that was my favorite place to live prior to living in Germany. Not so sure anymore...
But maybe I'll volunteer my services to a realtor just to have something to keep me busy for a day or two a week, think? |

You're planning to become a master flower photographer I see. :) Years ago in what seems like another life I was the news editor of the Lompoc Record, back when Vandy was going to be the west coast shuttle port. (for everyone else .. it was then and still is (I think) known for its flower farms)
Sorry for the interruption. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. |

Ah, I know Lompoc well. Blast from the past, Deb! Not far up Hwy 1 from there is Guadalupe, which has (or used to have) a higher concentration of excellent hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints than anyplace else I ever saw in California...

I went up to Vandyland to turn in my final travel voucher (sniff) and even the base seems like a ghost town these days. Kinda sad. And yes, Robert, TONS of good Mexican joints up there, not to mention the Santa Maria tri-tip BBQs in the shopping center parking lots on the weekends...
Dennis, up until my last move, I still had a Lompoc Record t-shirt for volunteering at the marathon. And yes, I do remember the flower festival parade every summer and how gorgeous the fields are when in bloom. They've moved to a bit more veggies, but still have tons of flowers. |

No I am not contradicting myself. Changing the lighting or using HRD to bring even lighting across the photo is fine. Cloning out a sock laying on the floor in the photo is fine. What I was talking about from the previous thread is that the photos were doctored to make the house look better. Holes in Walls were cloned out, Stains in Carpeting were cloned out, Big chips in the paint on the side of the house were cloned out. It is one thing to make a nice house look sensational it is another to make a dump look that way just to get people to waste their time looking at it.

That's the point of making the photos look sensational, to get your attention. You're contradicting yourself. :D |

I see your point. It could be like buying a mail order bride. In the (photoshopped) catalog, she'd look like [fill in your favorite - Heidi Klum, say] and when she shows up she looks like [fill in your favorite - Kathy Bates, say].
Making Art Roflmao's point before he has a chance ... "But then who's to say Heidi Klum ISN'T Kathy Bates the way the fashion industry works today?" |

Here in Calgary there was a lot of cases of people buying houses sight unseen. (Or is it site unseen?) The boom is slowing down so people are actually checking it out first. But still, if all you have to go on is what's on the web...? |

Sigh. The more I look at the real estate ads, the more I realize I'll never own a home even remotely worth HDR'ing. 'Tis kinda sad. |

If you add lots of gorgeous flowers and landscaping, plus some nice fresh and colorful paint, it would make for a great HDR scene :)
All that color with nice, new and smooth paint- add in some microcontrast and it'll make the neighbors look drab and dead by comparison. |

I anticipated this, so I just ordered the Klum/Bates model to avoid disappointment.

Our latest shoot:
//www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/3420-Byron-Dr_Buckingham_PA_18902_1116342398
The listing in Realtor.com has an exterior snapshot that the realtor took when there wasn't any snow. It would have been better had he let us shoot the exterior w/the snow.. at least it would have been a top notch pole aerial shot. |

Thank you! We do the best job we can. Maybe later on we can charge more but for now, we're trying to build up a solid client base. Our presentation at a recent sales meeting is generating new customers everyday. That definitely is the best marketing method. In the past we canvassed area offices w/flyer dropoffs and although it brought us some new customers, meeting agents in person seems to work the best.
BTW, here are some photos from today's shoot. These are straight HDRs processed in Photomatix with no additional editing, 5 bracketed shots ea.

I know the area pretty well too, I lived a bit north of Santa Maria, in SLO, for 6yr. Lots of good food, good people, spectacular scenery and, of course the wine. |
