I worked over 40 hours of overtime a few weeks ago and decided to treat myself to a few items.
Canon 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens
Several UV Filters
Lens Hood
2 Light Strobe kit
I am loving my new toys but now I realize how little I know about lighting with strobes. I went cheap with them so I can't adjust the power but for 60 USD I figured it was a good way to see if it is something I will want to get into. Now a question for those of you that are into strobes and off camera lighting.
Is there a book you would recommend to help me out or will just internet searches suffice for now? Is there anything you wish you would have know about strobe lighting when you started? |

Not my area of expertise but this site strobist seems to have a pretty wide following |

Sounds like you really earned those toys! |

Thanks for the strobist link, I have visited them and it does seem helpful. In the end I will probably learn the most by screwing up and getting comments on a challenge entry.
Yeah those 40 hours were rough but I started looking for toys after the first 20 hours so it made them bearable. I am really impressed with the quality of my new lens and got it for a great price. I have enough toys for now so hopefully now I can just work my regular schedule so I can play with them. |

We have the new 18-135mm EF-S on the 7D, and it's killer... That extra 10mm at the wide end is a godsend for a walkaround lens.

I debated whether or not to go that route and decided against it (not sure if that was the right choice or not). My reasoning behind it was that I have my kit lens 18-55mm so if I really want that extra 10mm I can switch lenses. Also I plan on getting a 10-22mm at some point. Anyways often when using my original 18-55 I would often bring it up around 30mm or so anyway. Time will tell if I should have gone with the 18 but I do have the 18-300mm range covered it just can be a pain swapping lenses. |
