Hey everyone,

In a few weeks I'll be going to Chile on business. I'm expecting to have some time on my hands to get out and see the sights, but I'm a bit nervous taking my 5DMKII and a few lenses. I know I want to take my gear, because if I don't I know there will be a point where I need it :) The camera is fairly expensive and I guess I'm just a bit nervous to take it out of the country (although technically I could get mugged here in good old Toronto!).

My Spanish is terrible, but I'll be with coworkers and friends, so I should be okay. What are other people's experience with traveling out of country with your gear? Do you get insurance for the trip just in case something happens? Can you even do that?

Also, I was thinking it might be a good idea to switch out the straps on my camera so it's not blatantly obvious what type of camera I have. Can anyone recommend a good replacement? Anyone else have any comments / recommendations / feedback? Worst case I take my S3 IS and have piece of mind :P

As it is a business trip and your time may be limited I would take the S3 IS

If you have homeowners' insurance or renters' insurance, check with your insurance company ... it might cover the camera.

I've traveled throughout Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina with my Nikon D3 and never had a problem.

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to check what insurance cover I have. Depending, looks like my S3 will be coming along for the ride :)
