Here Here my good man!
My first two submissions, I was just plain trying to impress people too much. (not that the stuff was that impressive)
The last subission I made, in "Things that count", was all about fun. (And, after many crushing penalties for "DNMC", actually making the entry relevant to the challenge)
Heck, I'm learning plenty through these contests. Why shouldn't I make it fun by putting my own "twist" on it? |

To watermark or not to watermark....
Then again, I've never had any images stolen, so.... :-) |

*Eyes widening in alarm* OMG other people than those for whom I've written the critiques, read them too? Never would've thunk such a thing possible! |
After you critiqued one of my entries, I called your bluff and went back through your port to see your stuff from day 1 (a burning house, if I remember) through present. (OK, not EVERY one, but a bunch)
I had to grin when I saw your ski jumper entry (and score) and I saw how far you've come along.
Keep kickin' it girl! |

They don't have Jones around my neck of the woods, but if you have access to endless supplies, cream soda's one of my favorites. All I need to know is shipping charges to TN, right???

What I've learned here is to be true to the photographer that I am. If I try to please everyone, I please myself least of all, and that's who I'm shooting for in the first place. What I try to do is to get better at conveying the image as I see it, the way I want it, and in such a manner that regardless of what some, or even most think, that if one other person sees it as I intended, then I've accomplished what I set out to do. The practice, the work, and the knowledge I've gained along the way make it easier for me to capture the image with my own parameters becoming second nature instead of so much conscious effort. I rarely screen up a file and think, "Oh.....I didn't see THAT!" so much any more. And that is prolly the one single most comforting thing I have acquired from my time here.....the knowledge that when I set out to create an image, I can generally do that with reasonable skill, and the surety that the final image will be as I intended in the first place.
That's a wonderful feeling......

I've been a little MIA this past week. There's been some horribly unsettling events and news from my hometown (Belleville, Ontario) that has shook that town, and most people who have ever lived there. A young woman was missing - I didn't know her, but I do know some of her family. She was found, murdered. The man who has been charged with her murder (and that of another woman, 2 other sexual assaults, and a slew of break-ins) is a Commander from CFB Trenton. A high-ranking, highly respected, very public figure.
It's shook me to the core. It's been ages since a news story has hit me so hard.

I hear you, Lea. And yes, the fact that the accused held such a high position of authority and trust only makes things that much worse, and from the looks of it, many cold cases in areas where he was posted may be linked to him. So far the evidence against him seems very compelling. Very sad state of affairs. |

Hello all! It has been a long time indeed. I got a lovely note from Julie last week, and felt so badly about my abandonment of DPC, I had to come back. It's been a challenging time, all told. The move into the city and working full time designing did nothing to help the photography. I just wasn't inspired, and felt no desire to sit in front of a computer doing Photoshop in the evenings when I'd sat in front of a computer and done Illustrator all day.
Then the relationship with the man went south, slowly at first, then picking up steam like a giant snowball. We've separated, and are both happy, and the Sprog seems to be handling it very well. He can see we're both happy, and are actually being civil to each other again. Which makes life a bit more pleasant.
Another reason to be happy is rekindled love. From a very long time ago; we both feel we've been waiting for the other to be single at the same time as ourselves, and on the same continent. Which has finally happened. We still live 700k apart, but at least we're in the same country...
And I'm shooting again.
So, all's good. Now we just need some warmer weather...

Thanks! I think I'll be tasting it for just a short period of time -- Drake says he still has the original on his card. I'm so glad for him -- DQs are awful. |

He's hardly a new man - we first went out 22 years ago... |

OK, I̢۪ll breach the subject any original members interested? Not that I̢۪m captain material ( long hours 4 days a week, could get worse later in the year with better shooting possibilities), but I had a hell of a lot of fun, and we did have a fair run. |

Hey! Anyone miss me? More than 48+ hours of no internet and no tv! At least the electric was only out for 4 hours. LOL! Heard a loud crack, then boom out went the lights, then crash, screech! Looked out the window, a tree across the street snapped in half and landed on a car driving down the street (in a blizzard, idiots). It ripped the wires right out of my house! Comcast just left and I logged right in. Internet withdrawal is awful! OMG!
And Alan, yes I'm interested! Maybe we could win again! |
